Dear,

I just downloaded MJ12 and saved the file in a folder. When executing the .exe it starts for about 1 second, closes again and that all.
I've the full MJ8 on my PC, I suppose this does not create a conflict.
I was always very satisfied with MJ8 but now I'm curious about what MJ12 is offering for Free.
can you help?

I deleted everything and redownloaded. same result.

So you have a problem with the installer file. What program you use for downloading it? What is your OS?

Assuming that the installer problem can be solved, you may want to do the following before installing MJ12.

Just in case that something goes wrong, you may to create a backup copy of the MJ8 data folder. By default its location is [your MJ8 install path]\Data. In addition, it is useful to create a library backup file with MJ8's library backup tool. You can restore this back up zip file in MJ12 and get most of your old library like playlists and custom tags imported.

If the exe won't execute, it's probably not complete.  Try another download.  The file size should be about 12MB.

OS = Windows XP professional SP2

don't know what program is used for download. but the download takes about half a minute and did finish "completed".

I now tried with an execute in stead of save when downloading. at the end it asks for execute software and again nothing happens.

thanks for the tip of the backup, this is done with file-library-libray manager-backup library. I suppose that's what you meant.

Hmm... Did you just use your web browser then? Is it a plain MS I.E. browser? (I don't know if MJ8 offers to download the new installer directly).

In any case you could just try to right-click this link and save the file to a local hard drive.

Yes, that creates a backup file of your MJ8 library (= only the database files, not the media files or anything else). If you have several libraries you need to do that for each library separately.

However, as I said, it might be a good idea to back up the data folder too (outside MJ8). Actually, you could back up the complete MJ8 program folder (the default folder path is C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox). You can just copy it to a safe location. It may contain cover art, plug-ins, skins, visualizations etc that you may want to preserve. Just in case...

no succes so far. I used the link but still the same result.
the downloaded file is always 11.8Mb but no run.
So I will be stuck to MJ8.
One of the reasons for changing to MJ12 is the problem on another PC (on my son's PC we have limited functions in MJ8 and my licence key does not solve anything).

You could try installing it on another PC.

I wonder if you have Win98.  Win 98 SP2 is the minimum required.

Have you tried the installer on both PCs as Jim suggested?

In some rare cases it might help to unpack the installer "exe" file to a folder (7-zip or Winrar can do this) and after that run the InstallWizard.exe file from the folder.

I can't remember which one it was, but there were many reports a while back that an 'always on' spyware scanner prevented the installer from running.
If you have such a thing running, perhaps try disabling it and see if that helps.

YES succes: Marko's tip did it. I had AdWatch running and deactiving it made it possible to run the exe completely.
In the mean time I installed already on my company laptop so I new it had to be something on my desktop causing the installation problem.
I've done some testing on the functions in MJ12 and it looks really great.
