Why do ppl put 'the' at the end as you did with Beatles or last name before the first name ?
MC can ignore articles and isn't it easier to read the other way round.
Again....
I use more than just MC. There are plenty of applications and players that can't, including Windows Explorer (when I want to look at my files using it).
find all Bright Eyes tracks by doing a Locate->Artist or all tracks by any artist for that matter.
I'm not sure what you mean by using the locate artist. My point is that I want my normal View Scheme, that I can browse using the panes, where that track (and other similar tracks) show up under
both artists. Maybe I want to select a bunch of different bands using the panes "on the fly" and make a little playlist (and play it on random). I do this often (multiple select items in the panes). If the song is by both Bright Eyes and the Album Leaf, I want it to show up under both.
And, by the way,
Locate --> Artist wouldn't work, since the track might be listed as [Artist] = Album Leaf, the (or might not -- the point is that I can't remember 3 months after I did the tagging).
If you don't use AA (auto), what is the quickest way to find all albums by a featured artist then ?
What do you do when you get a new album ?
i find listening to it in track sequence is the best way unless its a collection of mixes. Afterwards however sure, i'm done rating the tracks so i can pick & mix as desired.
I'm not sure what you mean.... I've removed [Album Artist (Auto)] from
all of my View Schemes. It doesn't sort by it, doesn't show in the columns, and none of the View Schemes use it as a pane. I use the regular old [Artist] tag in it's place. I don't like the idea of an Album Artist. If a particular album has some songs by one artist, and some more by another,
I want those songs to show up
separately if I'm browsing by Artist. If I filter the list to show only Bright Eyes, in my opinion, it should show
ONLY songs by bright eyes (and not include some random B-Side by another band that they put on one of their Singles or EPs in the list). That random song off of the EP should show up when I filter the list to show that other artist. I realize not everyone likes it this way, but that's how I see it.
The problem with this is that if a song is actually by
both artists (not just a song by another artist stuck onto someone else's album, but an actual collaboration), then I want it to show up under both. There is no easy way to accomplish this goal currently. You can hack it on, but it involves a lot of housekeeping work be done manually if you also want to support the standard, string-type, ID3 [Artist] tag (to support other players).
When I get a new album I tag it with the proper Artist, Album, Genre, and other info. I'm not sure what you were asking there. If I happen to get a "mix" CD (like a Soundtrack) I go through and tag each song with it's own individual artist. When I'm browsing by [Artist] they show up
separately (with tracks scattered all around throughout different artists). If I have [Artist] set to
All and I'm browsing by [Album] (which for me is rare, but does happen occasionally) then they show up together and in the right order. That's fine with me. I DJ myself, thanks, and don't need some record company exec deciding what order I listen to things in.
When I get a new album by a certain artist, or albums by an artist that puts a lot of work into building a cohesive work (like Radiohead or Pink Floyd for example), sure... I'll listen to them in order. My system allows for that ([Artist] = All, filter by [Album]). I'm not talking about anything complex... Just a Genre/Artist/Album View Scheme (I also have others, but that's the "main" one). Nearly 100% of the time these albums are only by one artist, so I can simply choose the Artist from the Artist pane (which filters the list of albums) and then choose the album I want in the Album pane. Any album that has other artists mixed in (like a Soundtrack CD) would likely not fall into that type of listening scenario for me... I generally
don't listen to the whole thing in order, ever! Of course, I generally don't buy Soundtrack CDs either so (except for an occasional exceptional one)...
