Database Read Only Ructions in the Force!!
« on: December 30, 2007, 07:17:41 pm »

Database Read Only
This database is already in use by another user.
It will be opened in Read Only Mode.
Any Changes will be lost when the program exits.

This notice I get when I close or start up Media Center since I foolishly unchecked something to do with the database in the MC library.

In my defence I was trying to delete a Hilary Duff folder.jpg that has completely taken over the cover art in my music files.

Nothing I have searched has managed to root out this file. Help!!

Any way I would be very appreciative of your assistance fixing this database Read Only problem. Its such a pain having to import all my files every time I start MC. I have tried a partial uninstall but not a full one yet.

Happy New Year to the entire Media Center Community from a Kiwi whose celebrating New year in 12 hours.

How are you starting MC?

Reboot the PC then start MC. Does that fix it?

Next take a look in the database directory (where the database is stored, not the content files), see if there is a file "lock.jmd".
Exit MC, make sure there are no processes named Media Center, and then delete that file.

Hi John
I tried rebooting with no improvement. I then did a search for lock.jmd, I located 20 files with that name in the Library Backups, but they all had 0 for size. I can't delete a file it tells me it cannot delete, cannot read from source file" thats not there. What should I try now?

Hi John
I start Media Center by clicking on the M C wallpaper icon.
Things have improved I am no longer getting the Read Only notice at startup and close and the files are remaining. The concern now is that when I try to restore the library it fails and when I restart MC the files have all gone.

First: try starting MC through the Start menu, instead of an icon.

I need a lot more information: what are you trying to restore, how are you doing it, and exactly what happens.

It seems to me you're using a library folder you don't have write or delete permissions for.

Try creating a new library using File > Library Manager at a directory you know you have ownership of, like My Documents\Media Center Library.

Then load the new library and restore into it.

I just had the same thing happen to me. My computer spontaneously crashed on me. When I rebooted, I got the database inuse message every time. My library is on a network drive, but i couldnt delete the lock.jmd file in it's folder. It told me it was in use.

So I went to another computer, and deleted the lock.jmd file on the network drive from there. Now things are back to normal for me.
