CES in Las Vegas
« on: January 07, 2008, 05:49:26 pm »

Peter Sohal and I will be cruising the floors at the convention center in Las Vegas the next three days.  Let us know if there's anything you'd like a picture of.

If you're not familiar with CES, try google or this link at CNET.  It's a BIG show of electronic toys.

Have a great time at the show.

How about a picture of someone in front of the 150 inch Panansonic Plasma TV?  Something tells me you can't miss it.

Better yet, would be a picture of the set with MC12 running on it!  ;D

Have a great time (I know you will)! I'm working on planning my April trip again now (to the other big show)...

I think theater view on the 150" TV would be in line.  Sneak behind and use your flash drive to install MC on the PC running it.  Is it sitting on the floor?  Wonder how much it weighs?

There's a picture of the TV here:

The second picture is of the people looking at it.

I thought the Sony OLED TVs were more interesting.  They're in the same group of pictures.

OLEDs are very interesting, but the technology hasn't been progressing very well.  I wouldn't hold my breath that they'll be down to the consumer market anytime soon.  Toshiba just cancelled all of their OLED plans, citing higher-than-forecast manufacturing cost.  More here: http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071214-toshiba-puts-oled-television-production-on-hold.html

Sony said at the last CES that they'd have a 27" released, which never happened... We're still stuck with only the 11", in only Japan, and it sells for an absurdly high price.

The web site says they're available now at the Sony stores in the U.S.

Thanks Jim, for posting the picture of the 150" TV.  I read somewhere that the resolution is 4x 1080P.  It must be an impressive sight :o
