Could J River help me troubleshoot this repeated crashing?
« on: February 10, 2008, 10:57:32 am »

Every day Media Center crashes after I come back to my computer following a long period of leaving it idle. Usually first thing in the morning.

Here is the error screen and crash details logged by Windows:

Code: [Select]

Runtime Error!

Program: ...rogram Files\J River\Media Center 12\Media Center 12.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.

It started about the time I installed build 428 but still happens under 432.  If you need me to post logs or something, just tell me what to do.

Please turn on logging in MC.  If it crashes, look for "crash" in the log and post the lines above and below.

Also, keep an eye on this thread:

Uninstall any third party plug-ins or other software.  Report any that you're using.

Okay it happened again. I don't know if you meant to literally search for the word "crash" in the log, but it does not appear there. I now suspect that the crash has something to do with cradling my PDA. I'm pretty sure every time it has crashed has been shortly after docking my PDA (which I do every morning), but I don't think it has happened EVERY time I dock the PDA.

I recently reinstalled Windows and did not add back any third-party plug-ins after reinstalling MC.

Since I did not know what portions of the log file would be relevant, I clicked the link to email a log file and I have that saved as a draft so I can send it to whoever will find it useful.

I'm going to try "remove and ignore device" for my Axim and see if that changes anything. It seems to see my Axim and its 2 storage cards (CF and SD) as three separate "handhelds"... maybe I need to tell it to ignore all of them?

I have repeated the crash multiple times by docking and undocking my Axim x51v. Just telling MC to ignore the Axim did not stop the crash. I had to ignore the Axim, SD card, and CF card. That seems to have stopped the crashing so far.

Matt: I will email you the log.
