I am trialing the new version because I cannot stand Itunes
but I did all what was asked as far as un-ticking ITunes to
use with the IPod ...but JRiver Media still does not pop-up after
the 10seconds
I have windows XP
NOD32/Outpost Firewall and Winpatrol running at start-up
I did how ever get to show all media I have bought or downloaded using Itunes and Napster
and and all help would be greatly appreciate

Yes starts manually just fine..seems to not pick
up the Nano at all. I do however get the pop-up displaying
the contents of the Nano[before un-ticking ITunes] Itunes opened
up and synced with the nano

iTunes runs several pieces of software in the background.  Try killing them.

When you've connected the nano, wait a few minutes.  If it doesn't show up, try MC's Handheld options and Redetect Devices.

where would I find that info to do the re-detect?
and when I start JRiver manually it begins the Waiting/loading/complete process
and shows alot of 'duplicates' songs..which I do not have
and a few say 'error'?? what does that mean?[in options 'autosync on connect' is ticked]
sorry for being a pain in the arse...just want to remove ITUnes for ever and Quicktime player

It's no trouble.  It could be a problem with MC.

If you want to remove Quicktime look for Community Combined Codec Pack (CCCP) which decodes mp4, aac, m4a files as these codecs are not included with jriver (I believe for various licensing issues).

Important - uninstall quicktime, then install CCCP not the other way around or you'll need to get CCCP to re-register the directshow settings...

Another worthy thing to look at to increase the usability/flexibility of Ipods is Rockbox which adds much codec support, games and other things to ipods and other music players. You can customise the interface so even if it is not as slick as you'd like to begin with, play with the settings...

Hello, Rick and right now I have removed the
JRiver and went back to ITunes[its a bloated peice of crap...but I am used to it]
if I return I will let you know.

Hi Gordon,

I am sure this is no consolation but when I plugged in a mates ipod just to have a look how it worked, it was seamless, it doesn't start automatically, but I don't like applications like that as many gadgets now have multiple uses, anyway, almost immediately the device was detected and I could drop tracks, playlists or whatever onto the sync area and transfer them.

On a different event I was transferring files to my phone (which I use as memory stick, PDA and walkman as well, a Sony Ericsson M600I btw) I have set it up that it only accepts mp3's, not entirely true but anyway, I selected some m4a tracks to be transferred... it failed but then I just went into the cccp settings got it to re-register itself in there and mid process the transfer of m4a tracks (through transcoding to mp3 started working...

JRiver is not always the easiest to use because it is so powerful, but it is absolutely worth learning.
