Media Center 12.0.451
« on: March 03, 2008, 08:35:54 pm »

This is the latest version of MC 12.0.  Any MC12.0 license will work with it.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.

This latest build (usually safe) of MC12.0 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/MC12/MediaCenter120451.exe

12.0.451 (3/3/2008)

1. Fixed: Dragging over the panes would select a different item.
2. Fixed: Skin layouts could incorrectly calculate the ideal size of certain skin pieces, causing skin item misplacement.
3. Fixed: The mouse wheel would run the thumbnail size slider when the mouse was in the view header even if it wasn't over the slider.
4. Changed: Updated German language file (thanks Bytestar & Daniel2k).
5. Changed: Updated Czech translation (thanks JohnnyB).
6. Fixed: Field names with parenthesis in them did not work properly with duplicate style smartlist rules.
7. Fixed: Using the middle scroll button could cause a crash.
8. Changed: When holding tab or an arrow when in-place editing a list, the selection moves more smoothly visually.
9. Fixed: After changing a value during an in-place edit, keyboard navigation to edit other items would not work.
10. Fixed: View sorting works better for smartlists that contain multiple sort rules.
11. Fixed: The search box would not update nicely when switching skins.
12. Fixed: Skins that didn't specify scrollbar art didn't draw scrollbars nicely.
13. Fixed: Searching for stacks wasn't expanding the stack.
14. Changed: Revised how tabs are skinned, and updated included skins.
15. Fixed: Problems transferring files to iPods (introduced in 12.0.450).

12.0.450 (2/29/2008)

1. Changed: Several enhancements to expression editor (up / down work, tabbing works, would shift focus on close, shift+click works, ctrl+arrow more standard, etc.)
2. Fixed: Panes no longer support right-clicking a non-selected item (could cause "All" to be used instead of right-click item).
3. Changed: View scheme component editor uses expression editor control.
4. Changed: View scheme editor uses the popup search editor for managing the files to show. (instead of the older-style search box)

12.0.449 (2/28/2008)

1. NEW: MCC_LOAD_LIBRARY_READ_ONLY added.
2. Changed: Stack submenu in the view header menu has been removed.  Expand and collapse stack items moved to Options sub menu.

4. Fixed: The stack top file could be orphaned.
5. Changed: Right click Stack Menu has changed.
6. Changed: View stack menu options now operate on visible files in view.
7. Changed: Collapsing and expanding stacks state is maintained per stack rather than globaly.
8. Changed: New art for collapsed stacks, stack tops and stack members.
9. Fixed: Chapter was misspelled in a DVD menu.
10. Fixed: last.fm should install correctly under Media Center.
11. NEW: Switched some expression editing to use a newer edit control / popup.

12.0.448 (2/26/2008)

1. Changed: DirectShow video (and TV and DVD) stops playback on sound-device-lost event.
2. Fixed: The system shortcut for showing a menu Shift+F10 works better.

5. Changed: Made view header and tree right-click menus for Playing Now more similar.
6. NEW: Use Stack File if Available option added to handheld audio conversion section.
7. NEW: Move and Stack Converted Files with Original option added to handheld audio conversion section.

12.0.447 (2/25/2008)

1. Fixed: Action Windows were not properly receiving some notifications, causing a variety of problems (only applies to 445).
2. Fixed: Smartlist editor would incorrectly draw the modifier group box when there was only an empty modifier.
3. Fixed: Smartlist editor could discard sorting changes when changing other modifiers.
4. Fixed: Selecting in the smartlist editor was not possible when an auto-complete tooltip was visible.
5. Fixed: Sorting was not working properly in grouped views.
6. Fixed: Dialogs popping up from a detached display view would not be skinned.

12.0.446

5. Changed: FLV is assumed to be video and would be imported as video even if DirectShow graph fails.
6. NEW: Sort customization interface from Customize Current View is used in any place sorting can be customized. (menu, dialog, search editor)

Re: Media Center 12.0.451 - Cover Art bug?
« Reply #2 on: March 04, 2008, 03:41:38 am »

Hi !

Small bug/problem: Not seeing any hover effects on buttons on this build when the player is stopped.  It works fine if playing (seems a little unresponsive, but that may not be unusual, couldn't say).  That's on Vista.  On XP, it works regardless of whether playing or stopped, although does seem a little less responsive when stopped.

As I believe this'll be my 100th post, I think a big Thank You is due for a fantastic program ;D

iPods should also be working again with this build.

The syncing bug is fixed on this build -- thank you.

I am seeing a "cover art" bug, however, that I saw with 439 as well.  This is an issue where the "Cover Art Only" screen on my 5th gen iPod (6th gens do not have this screen), display a blank box for the cover art on this screen.  The OTHER three "playing now" screens display the art, but the "cover art only" screen (3rd of the 4 screen toggle modes when playing a song) does not.  This happens with the last track of any album, and sometimes with the first track of some albums.

"[Media Type]=[Audio] [Key]=[26544] ~d=t"
the file (key:26544) should only be found, when it is in the playing now database... right ?
but the limitation to Playing now (~d=t) is not working.

edit:
i created a smartlist with this formula and removed all playing now files.
the smartlist is only updated, when i close and restart MC.

While you're building the Next Big Rev of MC, consider taking time to unify the behavior of all the file scroll boxes in the application.  I find that many your file locate scroll boxes behave differently, and behave differently from what we'e come to expect from general Windows file locator boxes.  For example, I expect to be able to click in the space below an elevator and have the elevator jump down one window.  Not so everywhere in MC.  A similar example is in the Make New Folder in Copy or Move Files functions.  When moving media files, the Rename function works differently at the top level than at a lower level.   These little fixes would make MC much much easier to use.  I actually cannot use all the features you offer today.  I'm looking for smoother operation and ease of use in this terrific product.  Thanks.

I think JRiver would need to fix the scrollbars one by one. It would be more helpful if you could provide a list of the exact program parts where you have experienced this behavior.

With this build my Tivo server seems to have stopped working.   It still navigates to everything just fine - but when I press play, nothing happens.  It just displays the song, but the progress bar never moves.

This happens with MP3s and FLAC that have all worked before - set to convert if needed.

Adding an expression to a view scheme is broken. The very same string for a working smart list isn't correctly applied to my view scheme: [Media Type]=[Audio] [BPM]=<80 [Intensity]=<4 [Genre]=[Blues],[Electronica],[Folk],[Gospel],[Jazz],[Latin],[Rhythm & Blues]. I should have about 1200 files; instead I have 30K.

The smartlists
Code: [Select]
[Media Type]=[Audio] -playlistid==846334178,=1046870015,=133112139 ~dup=[Titel],[Interpreten] ~sort=[Artist],[Name]still doesn't work for me. It display NOT only the dublicated files, but all files matching the other criterias (not in the two selected playlists).

Using MC's handheld sync feature to convert flac to mp3 files during transfer,
while I have the setting for conversions to be done in 2 concurrent threads MC occaisionally will 'drop' one of the conversions, continuing on with only a single conversion at one time.
I have seen this happen several times now.

WHen playing back or analysing-audio with ogg vorbis media (that was ripped within MC) the MC launches a web browser and taking me to the microsoft DRM license migration page - which is interesting with ogg vorbis!

I have the JRSecureRip.log file to show it was created using MC

It also says "acquiring license" in the status window - it is not totally consistent, not every playback, but most... This is affecting both systems i have (on two different networks)

I am using build 450 still.

Anyone else seen this?

thanks

Update on the Tile View button being broken; you have to hit it just right to keep it open. Something most definitely wrong with it.

I've just found a rather random bug related to moving files and tagging them whilst doing so  :)
If you move a set of files, and then before the disk process finishes (In my case I'm migrating a large amount of stuff from a local drive to my server) attempt to tag this same set of files, then the move process breaks. Any files moved are fine, but any that hadn't been moved before the tagging process was initiated are left in the original location. The tags and location for the files remain intact, but they're left at the old location.

Cheers

Image Stack sorting is inconsistant when viewed in a detail view with Large Thumb image added to the view.

I use almost all detail views with a Lg Thumb positioned to the far left. This allows me to select a directory for an artist and see all albums grouped by Year/Artist/Album for the artist. The Lg Thumb use to default to the Image File prior to adding the stacking feature. Now stacks are displayed, although they aren't true stacks, these are autostacks?. The problem is that the top graphic of the stack is random. I've tested this 50 times booting into the same detail view and the top graphic varies. The sort order I use is MediaType(a-z)/Disc#(a-z)/Track#(a-z)/Name(a-z). This sort always lists the Audio files first sorted by disc# and then by track#. Data files follow the Audio files and then Graphic files. Media Center is ignoring and Image File that has been pasted into the audio files. It considers all audio files as a single count. This results in 5 different combinations of the file being displayed on top of the stack. It can be anywhere from the 1st-5th file in the sorted list where all audio files are counted as a single file.

Example File Sort
Audio Trk1
Audio Trk2
Audio Trk3
Audio Trk4
Audio Trk5        All Audio Files Count 1
Data File1         File Count 2
Graphic File1     File Count 3
Graphic File2     File COunt 4
Graphic File3     File Count 5
Graphic File4

Randomly the program takes one of the counted files and displays it on the top of the stack. It will use that file to display on the top of all stacks viewed for that session. The next time you start MC, it will again chose a Count file to display on top of the stack. Resorting the detail list may change the graphic used for the top of the stack but it will still adhear to the way it's counting the file types. The only time it will use Audio files as more than 1 count is if Audios file exist in two separate directories such as 2 CD's. Then it counts each directory as 1.

My Current Library spans 4 750Gig HD's and totals 75,000 plus files.
HD Directory Structure is
Artist/
        Yr-Album/
                     Album Version
                                        /AlbumArt
/Multiple Disc (If single disc, audio files stored in Album Versio Directory)

My perfect MC world would sort stacks using Image File on top (Displayed) and if that isn't possible or available the first image in the current sort order omitting those gaudy data icons. I find it hard to believe anyone would want those displayed on top of the stack.

There seems to be a memory leak when streaming music (at least from sky.fm) using this version.  When I play  music from my own mp3s the memory rises to about 35MB and stays there ... when I stream music the memory usage keeps climbing by 32k every 10 seconds or so and keeps climbing for as long as I keep streaming.

I'm running MC on Vista if that makes any difference...

Clicking MC's (or MJ's) 'Artist Info' function yields a poor search result on AMG,
perhaps MC or AMG had a syntax change?

Here is an example of the search string sent by MC as displayed n the AMG search:
PORCUPINE TREE-AD-ALBUM=IN ABSENTIA-AD-TITLE=TRAINS
and another:
GRATEFUL DEAD-AD-ALBUM=LIVE/DEAD-AD-TITLE=DARK STAR

In most cases these bring up alot of junk and little relevant info.

I'm having a lack of responsivness when trying to stop/start videos on my Vista machine. Full screen issues as well; after I start a video, full screen is cut in half and I have to coax MC into full screen mode. MC is hard pressed to respond to stop and start with videos, library server, even the close button is "sticky". Opening MC results in Tiles empty with a long delay/lock of MC until they are filled in. I just defragged too.

What type of file?

Can you provide a link that doesn't work?

Any other software in use?

Search box: In versions past, you could click and drag in one motion to highlight the text contained within. Now it seems to take a click to give it focus, then another click and drag to highlight.

Left-click lasso won't work when hovering over text unlike right-click lasso which allows it.

This is by design.

From build 294:

3. Changed: Revised lasso system to follow these rules:
  • Right-click lasso: right-mouse drag will always start a lasso
  • Left-click lasso (optional, off by default): left-mouse drag will start a lasso when over a non-selected item in non-text area (in Options > Tree & View > Advanced)

Media Center Tivo-style caches up to 100MB of internet streaming.  It uses a mapped view of a temporary file, so the memory may show up as process memory.  As long as memory usage falls once playback stops, I wouldn't worry about it.

Man, by design? Really defeats the purpose of having a left-click lasso imho.
