Installing Media Center broke Media Jukebox
« on: May 16, 2003, 08:35:26 pm »

I got an email saying "Media Center 9.0 is out! Free download!" today, and figuring "why not", went and downloaded the free trial.  It wanted to install into the same directory as Media Jukebox, but I told it not to because I didn't want Media Jukebox flattened.  I started up Media Center, looked around, decided it didn't have any new features that I actually wanted, and went back to Media Jukebox.  Or tried to, as Media Jukebox said:

Code: [Select]
Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Program Files\Media Jukebox\Media Jukebox.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

So far as I can tell, Media Center 9 did not modify any files in C:\Program Files\Media Jukebox.  So presumably it installed a "shared" DLL in my Windows XP install directory that is incompatible with Media Jukebox 8.

Here is a page on switching between the two versions:

http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/buy_faq_switching.html

All you need to do is install the latest version of MJ and it will look for the backup data that MC made when it installed.
