SOLVED: FLAC Playback from Library Server
« on: April 07, 2008, 03:04:14 pm »

Hello,

I have a problem with a library server

When playing files from a library server on the network, it works most of the time. However, there is one song I am having trouble with. The file is 70.3MB, 916kbps and has a duration of 10:43.

When playing the file from a client, it attempts to buffer it but fails and skips to the next song which it cannot play either. It skips all the way to the end of the album and MC runs at 99% of the CPU until the stop button is pressed.

I have tried increasing the playback buffer to 5 secs with no luck.

Also, I tried both a 802.11 WiFi and a wired network connection to see if it would make a difference. No luck.

I copied the file locally and it played just fine without the library server portion.

This symptoms were the same on 2 computers configured similarly. However, a third computer tried to have the file converted to MP3 for playback and the playback failed (MC 12 complains that the file does not point to the right location).

How can I troubleshoot this issue?

For the third computer problem, you will need the FLAC decoder installed ON THE SERVER.

For playback: is it the longest file you have?

I am running 12.0.451 on the server so FLAC is installed by the package. Right? however, I noticed that when I attempt to play the file on the server itself it stops afte a second of playback or so but other files play just fine.

FYI this is not the longest file of the library and it does not have the highest average bitrate but it is close. All I can say is that there are some of the highest bitrate sequences of my whole library (this is Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos, a Progressive Metal album very tightly packed).

Thank you

You might try ripping it again.

Solved!

As strange as this might sound, ripping again fixed the album!

Weird!
