Media Center 12.0.481
« on: April 19, 2008, 07:36:06 am »

This is the latest version of MC 12.0.  Any MC12.0 license will work with it.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.

This latest build (usually safe) of MC12.0 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/MC12/MediaCenter120481.exe

12.0.481 (4/18/2008)

1. NEW: When moving the thumbnail slider to the biggest setting, the list enters a special mode that always keeps exactly one item visible and doesn't allow partial, messy looking scrolling.
2. Fixed: During YADB Track Info lookup, a bad server result could cause a crash.
3. Fixed: HH Conversion Cache would not save a file unless one had an insane amount of disk space left.
4. Changed: Added more logging to playback startup to help trouble-shoot playback issues.
5. Fixed: Sometimes a popup confirmation could stay on the screen while running a tool until the tool finished.
6. NEW: Image Editor remembers its last window position between uses.
7. Fixed: When enlarging thumbnails, the selected thumbnail would not be centered if the scroll was at the top position in the list.
8. Fixed: Right click stack menu commands should show up in the MRU.  (Not just search.)
9. Fixed: Set Stack Top not an option for a file that is already the stack top.
10. Changed: Stack icon column removed as default from some views.
11. NEW: An iPhone/iPod Touch can now be ejected.
11. Fixed: Disconnecting or reconnecting an iPhone/iPod Touch could crash the program. (Disconnecting during a transfer may still cause a crash.)
12. Changed: Some views allowed stack actions when it wasn't appropriate.  Right click menus and stack icon clicks are vetted at the view.
13. Changed: Some stack commands added to the mccommands list.  (Expand, collapse, etc.)
14. Fixed: Click-n-drag to select text in the search box or other custom edit control would not work properly.

12.0.480 (4/18/2008)

(Internal)

12.0.479 (4/17/2008)

1. Optimized: Thumbnails are pre-buffered to make viewing and scrolling in thumbnail lists smoother. (all cache memory is released when switching views or minimizing the program)
2. NEW: Video conversion (to WMV) will honor user's choice of streams.
3. Changed: Stack tooltips slightly more informative.
4. Fixed: Stack issue where the stack engine was storing 0xffffffff when it should have been storing -1.
5. Fixed: Get Cover Art dialog better sizes to large font settings.
6. Changed: Revised how "Choose best result" works so that it won't replace local art not on the server with smaller server art.
7. Changed: Get Cover Art uses a smaller item in the art list for items with no art.

12.0.478 (4/16/2008)

1. Fixed: Paging down on a scrollbar with subsequent fast clicks would only accept every other click.
2. Optimized: Improved off-screen buffer management for all windows to provide faster rendering during scrolls or other animations.
3. Optimized: Thumbnail list drawing is up to twice as fast.
4. Fixed: A tooltip could appear, and then reappear slightly shifted if the mouse was moved in a certain way.
5. Fixed: The 'Home' key works more logically in grouped list controls.
6. Fixed: Missed an error count in the stack checker.
7. Fixed: Autoimport wasn't fixing the stacks after removing files from DB.
8. NEW: The stack icon column in details view is now sortable.  (Sorta.)
9. Fixed: "Check for Updates" would show the "No updates available" dialog behind the program.
10. Fixed: Image editor resizing wouldn't properly round when maintaining aspect ratio.
11. Changed: Some formatting changes to the Tag Action Window. (name & date are not treated specially, <varies> is now Artist Varies, etc.)
12. Fixed: The image editor would switch the toolbar text mode of the main program.
13. NEW: Added the ability to transfer files from iPod's (and any other device that is assigned a drive-letter) to the PC.

A couple of notes on this build:

#1 above is an effort to help with the problem of viewing a single image.

iPod Touch and iPhone sync is improved.  Disk space calculation may not be precise.  Try leaving 15% open for now.

For discussion, please use another thread.

With this new build, the "Your library" image in the right-hand pane of the Get Cover Art dialog, overlays the text:

Still have problem to sync my Archos 605.

If I uncheck "delete form hendhald.." option then MC just sync again part of my files that are allready in the Archos.
check the delete option and pressing  "Recheck sync" and MC like to delete and resync most of the files..
for the rest it's indicate in status column: "Duplicate" / "In Queue" / "Delete on Sync".. ALL for the same file name... so when I sort the sync list by name, I get the sme file name 3 times with a different status each time.

I really appreciate a solution for this problem.

Thx.

Still got this problem (appeared in 468):

A small bug of refresh happens in the "rename files from properties" dialog.

If you change the base path, the input field still keeps the old value until you hover it with the mouse.

The new value is taken in account (well displayed in the preview too)

I upgraded today to this build from 456, and there is an issue / bad interaction with Haali media splitter.  Starting MC12 is fine, and within about a minute the Haali media splitter taskbar icon flashes on and off repeatedly.  If playing, at that time any playback stops.

I verified this behaviour on 2 PCs, whose general configurations are different (both running Vista), but have a recent Haali (Matroska splitter) installed.  The latest 'pushed' build is also the same (the one you get from the 'check for updates' in MC).

Happy to supply more information if needed - right now, this build is unfortunately unusable for me :(

There is now an issue in the thumbnail views where the text below the thumbnail is not always present.

Every time I add a new import folder to the Library & Folders options MC reverts the settings to:

Run Auto-Import - Yes
Analyze Audio - Yes
Get Cover Art - Yes

This is in spite of my repeatedly setting these to NO each and every time.  Shouldn't these stick to the preferences I set once the defaults have been changed by user choice?

The same happens when you clone a library, even though the original has been set to NO for these same options.

I have had some crashes while running Analyze Audio on batches of files in recent weeks (always on the newest public build).

I finally enabled logging, here is the end of the log and my sysinfo.... let me know if you want the whole log.

Try updating your video codecs :)
Last time I saw this, it was an issue with Xvid.

Cheers

Quote
1)- MC's (and MJ's) Artist Info has been an issue for me:

When used from the upper toolbar, AMG brings up 'garbage' apparently due to syntax non-interoperability,
on a search for "Jefferson Airplane - Long John Silver" AMG shows a search for:

  JEFFERSON AIRPLANE-AD-ALBUM=LONG JOHN SILVER-AD-TITLE=EASTER

which does not bring up the Artist at AMG, but rather brings up a bunch of other stuff
Please look at this as I find it is much easier to tag [Styles] from AMG using a seperate browser, thus the need for the upper toolbar "Artist Info" usage.

This appears to have been fixed as it is now working properly once again.
Thank you!

Please start a new thread and try playing this file:
G:\WUTemp\Disk168\Charles, Ray\The Complete Country & Western Recordings - 1959-1986\26 - Good Morning Dear.flac

What happens?

Try the other files in the list.

Select an album of song files in Windows Explorer, drag and drop them into MC's Playing Now window,
MC adds the files but jumbles the order every time. They should appear in track number order by default.

And no, I do not have Shuffle turned on.

Thanks for:

Keeping the last selected checkbox in "Rename Files From Properties" sticky.

Moving the Track Name in the tag window to appear as any other field.

I'm getting a repeatable crash with this build on my Vista machine, but not on XP, when viewing files.  Usually happens when scrolling down to the bottom of a file list.

Also (completely unrelated):
If I switch between grouped and not grouped, it changes my Image column...can kind of see why (big image is good for grouped) but it's really annoying.  I kept noticing that I kept being switched back to small thumbnail and had to change it, and have only just realised what it is that's doing it.  I'm very picky about which columns I want to see, and don't want anything to change them for me!  Is it meant to do this?

Bugs:

Ripper

All filenames have an additional ".wav" string. E.g. 04 - The Upstairs Room.wav.flac, 05 - The Walk.wav.ape or 06 - Speak My Language.wav.mp3

Audio Analyzer

The measured replay gain values are truncated to integral numbers. I.e. all decimal values are missing.

What does the Audio Analysis Info field do? I have not seen it previously.

I also tested the previous public build, 12.0.476. It doesn't have these problems.

I already reported this one:
I'm using 3 view with tabs.
the tabs view are not retained when closing and relaunching the application.
1 or sometimes 2 of the tabs are displaying the "start" view instead of the view they had when closing.

MC get lots of updates, it's probably a good thing, but reappearing bugs seems to be a pretty common unfortunate side effect we get with it.
I believe this bug for has already been fixed at least once. and now it's back again.

This is the latest version of MC 12.0.  Any MC12.0 license will work with it.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.

A long lasting bug that suddently prevents MC to start anymore.
Somehow all the direct X audio plugins and DXi (audio virtual instruments) that I have installed for music processing are being queried for the video filters. I probably have hundreds of these... I know they get queried because some authorization screens do show up and then for some reason, MC crashes.
Now I cannot start MC anymore (I neither can't enable the log), the error signature says ModName jrtools.dll.

Reported this a couple of times earlier:

I am using the PixOs skin with a Negative Effect.
When i go to Drives & Devices and select a drive the files a shown.
At the bottom there will be a box with different selection possibilities: 'single folder', 'recursive' and 2 more.
In this version of MC that box is totally white (white font on white background). Only after selecting the box the options get visible.

The same for the area on the right of the options for the Last FM plugin. It shows up white, but should be dark.

In this version, in theater view if I adjust the volume it jumps to 0 and stays there.  I can adjust it by hand on the player and it works.

Worked out what it is that's actually doing this now.  It crashes as soon as I hover over a truncated name and it gives me the tooltip showing the full name.

I can't reproduce this.

Remember that a view like a handheld view will not be available on first startup, so would revert to "Start".

You should get the files in order, starting with the file you start the drag on.  This is to say, if you pick #1, #2, #3 and drag from #2, you will get #2, #3, #1 in Media Center.

They were in order when I hit Ctrl-A to select them all.

So are you saying that after that you must be selective about where you "grab" the group to avoid changing the order?

Re:Eba's issue
I saw exactly this issue (with the tooltips) yesterday.  I couldn't reproduce again it however, so didn't report it.
It was one of the non image tooltips,  like when a column isn't wide enough to display a field, so shows a tooltip.

Yes.  At least on XP, the drag item will be presented as the first item to the receiving application.

It doesn't seem to do it if MC has been running some time.  If I close it (completely) and restart it again, then try this it crashes immediately.  Doesn't seem to matter which column.

Thanks.

Try a reboot, then reinstall.

This JRTools.dll issue is a new one for us, so please let us know if you learn anything (or if anyone else is seeing it).

Thanks.

Having an odd issue these past few days with MC 481.  Whenever I try to start it, it never launches.  I get the windows saying it crashed the last time i ran it and I tell it to disable everything, then it never launches.  Just crashes right away.  I tried reinstalling it.  No luck.  any suggestions to get it working again.  This is on an XP machine.
