When you start media server is there any way you can specify an IP address that it will be listening on.

I have multiple network cards in my PC and media server always start on the one that linked to DHCP so i never know what the address will be until i have a look.

My other NIC has a static address and thats the one i want Media Server to listen on.


Cant be that difficult but i cant find it.

Selecting "Tools" -> "Media Server" -> "Connect", I'm asked for a Server Name or an IP Adress : there you fill in your static adress, the one you want Media Server to listen on.

And the next time you want to connect, select "Tools" -> "Media Server" -> "Connect To Last", and it should use the same adress.

Nope, That's how you tell the client what server to connect TO not how you tell the server which IP address to listen ON.

I'd second this as a request for enhancement.  I also have a dual homed server but Media Server just happens to pick the correct IP address.

I'm only guessing here.  It may have to do with the order of the cards or the order in which they were configured.  Pulling a card or deleting it from Control Panel/System/Hardware might work.  Just a guess.

That's a great straight line.  Let me think about it.

What I think you want is for Media Server to serve requests on two different IP addresses.

Our problem now (well, one of our problems) is that, though we could certainly do things like that, the market for them becomes progressively smaller, and most new users are penalized by the added complexity.

Hi mikeh,

Media Server listens on all IP addresses. Do a netstat -an and look for the line with Media Server's port, you'll see a local address of 0.0.0.0. This means it's listening on all interfaces.

There may be a synchronization problem, if Media Server starts up before your static IP interface comes up, it may not catch that. Try restarting the server to see if it catches it.

How many are interested in specifying a single IP (remember that it now listens on ALL IPs)?

Ha!  I didn't think to actually do a netstat and check.  I think what threw us off is that the Media Server itself reports only 1 IP address.  

OK, knowing that, being able to specify a single IP address would be nice but at the very bottom of my priority list.

How about a quick fix to the Media Server titlebar so it just says "Port: nnnn" instead of showing the first IP address?
