the program is very easy to pick up and seems quite capable; the scripts are great and editing album/track info is incredibly simple and it even looks good too! but...it crashes every time i try to send data to an ipod. 

i've also tried two different units, 5th & 6th Gen, and the results are the same.  it has been 6 attempts now, different music selections/same music selection, some that have already been on this pod and although it starts to transfer and even gets the pod synchronizing screen up, windows pops up with an error report and down the drain goes j river. 

is there a switch to flip or a setting somewhere that needs to be checked or something?

Please make sure you have the latest version installed.

If the problem persists, post the tail of a log showing a crash. (Help > Logging)

Installed version is 12.0.39

Read about the logging errors bit in the forums - (what a great concept, btw!) but not certain which portion to post when you say 'tail'; how much/little do you need to see?

Thanks for reading Citizen Matt - I'd really like to get this working, it is really laid out well and I'm still using the program for tagging/editing despite the fact that none of my efforts are transferrable.

Hello,

have installed latest (12.0.44) and no change, still crashes every time a file transfer is attempted.  as suggested, here is the tail end of log just prior to latest crash.  if there is any sense to be made of it, please let me know. thanks in advance.

Please try the following:

1) Make sure you are running the latest firmware on your classic.
2) Initialize the iPod in Media Jukebox (this will erase all files).
3) Turn on logging to a file - all events are on.
4) Go into handheld options for your classic and make sure conversion is turned off for all media types and unselect all sync rules.
5) Drag-n-drop one mp3 file to Drop Files Here and click Transfer.
6) If MJ crashes, go back into MJ > Help > Logging and email me (rick at jriver dot com) the logs. If it doesn't crash, sync or transfer files until you can recreate the crash and then send the logs.

Hello Rick,

Classic is only a month and a half old but will check on the firmware. You mention initializing in MJ - this erases the files on the pod or in the MJ library? Also do not see a way to turn all conversions off, at least 1 simultaneous conversion appears to be required, as is the mp3 encoder. The sync rules are all off, my preference is to drag/drop folders and file groups rather than syncing.  Will double check the settings for logging as well and see what happens.  This must be painfully, baby-step slow for you and i appreciate it; will get back to you after a few trials.

OK, let's see if this sheds any light on things:  Starting with a fresh download of MJ on a separate and unconnected computer that is less than a year old and in perfect working order it yields the same results; Jukebox is up and running smooth as silk until the transfer starts, sync screen appears on pod and then crash for MJ. That would lead me to suspect the pod itself if not for the fact that it is barely a month old and transfers just fine (but painfully cumbersome on windows) via itunes.  No clue at all here. Anyone...anyone...(Bueller...)?
