MEDIAC~1.exe in Task Manager. Why?
« on: June 17, 2008, 05:00:39 am »

I downloaded MC 12.0.497 trying to use it with a plugin for another software. After I installed it, I found I really liked it on its own merits, so I bought it.

Anyway, everytime I start up J River media center 12, it appears as MEDIAC~1.exe in my task manager, which I think is giving me compatibility problems with that other software program and it looks like a virus. So I'm wondering if the download was infected. I got it from the main site. If my download is ok, then why is media center showing up in my task manager like this? I'm on Windows XP SP2.

Welcome to Interact.

Why do you think it is a virus?

What OS?

Mine shows as Media Center 12.exe in Windows XP.  Do you not see that?

Did you try a reboot?

What other problems do you see?

That's simply the short-filename version of "Media Center 12.exe".  Sometimes task manager will show a process that way if it was started a certain way (sorry, I don't remember why).

It's nothing to worry about.

I had this some time ago. I found the reason: I had to rename "Media Center 12.exe" to do some testings. After changing the name back to original using a rename tool, the name was shown up like you report. It also can happen if a parent folder has been renamed incorectly (e.g. by using Unlocker). So there is, as Matt said, no matter to worrie about that!

Great if I don't have to worry about it I won't. Thanks!
