PicLens and BrightKite Support
« on: June 25, 2008, 03:16:48 pm »

These are two things that I think would be very cool.  They don't really go "together" at all, other than that they both have to do with MC and they both are related to pictures, but I thought of them at the same time so here you go.

First off...

Easy BrightKite support (similar to the Facebook support) would be very cool.  If you haven't heard of Brightkite, it is a cool new "geo-social network" with a photography focus.  It is still in beta, but it is pretty cool, and is supposedly coming out of beta pretty soon.  If you sign up for an invite, you'll probably get one within a few weeks via email.  The basic idea is that you can take pictures and "check in" with your GPS-enabled cell phone or camera (also many phones can figure out your location based on cell towers, though this is less accurate), or you can always manually type in a location (via address or zip code or whatever), and the pictures will be linked to a physical location on the globe.  Then, as a user, you can see what else is going on around you, see where your friends are (if they also have brightkite accounts), and all sorts of other cool stuff like that.  From their FAQ:

Quote
Brightkite connects people based on the places they visit in the real world. With Brightkite you can see where your friends are, what they’re up to, see what's going on around you, and meet real-world friends.

(If one of the developers wants an invite that they'll actually use, let me know, and I can send you one -- I have a limited number but I'd spare one.)

Secondly...

The PicLens plugin for Firefox is mega-cool, and it'd be sweet if Pix01 was compatible.  Flickr, YouTube, PhotoBucket, and many of the other Image Sharing websites out there already are.

Using Piclens a lot and loving it. You can even use PicLens Publisher to create a local gallery on your hard drive (fails with 1000K+ files).

MC should simply grab this view style up or something similar for viewing pics.  PicLens is what I always imagined MCs Theater View should be like.

I heard about BrightKite a while ago... I love the idea, but I'm holding out for a geotag-enabled camera before I jump in head first :)

PicLens is totally awesome. I was using it to show some friends a bunch of photos on facebook and they all immediately went home and downloaded the plugin. If MC could emulate/mimic the view and interface of PicLens I'd be in photo navigational heaven :D

Finding pictures on google image with piclens is WAY more easier.
This interface is just ....impressive.... : quick (very quick), intuitive, beautifull. Just try it (free), you won't be disapointed!

I would love to browse my images/music/videos with it.

Enabling a web site seems easy too (if MC's staff wants this in pix01) http://piclens.com/lite/webmasterguide.php#how

Do they offer some sort of SDK with piclens ?

Then all you have to do is assign clicks on album images to go play the album.

Is it too hard to imagine a plugin working here then.

Strange, but Piclens no longer works in Google Images launched from Google>Search Images on both my XP and Vista machines. You have to get "in" Piclens and use the search bar inside it.

Also, I'm still wearing the same soxy socks, waiting for Jim to blow them off with some webtacular something....?

Imagine MC with Piclens?

http://picasaweb.google.com/Catuccio/BobDylanPiclensExample excuse the avatar getting dragged in)

Turns out that the CustomizeGoogle addon for FF kills Piclens (I was mainly using it at work not at home).
