Belgian ales come in many varieties, but Duvel, or the "Devil" as the locals call it, ranks highly among the best. This hazy gold liquid poured smoothly with the most beautiful creamy white head, reminding me of a whipped meringue topping. The sweet candy sugar smell deceivingly masks the potent 8.5% alcohol waiting to warm the belly.

Belgian trappist breweries are known for high alcohol content elixers, especially the well-known trippels. Golden Ales are similar to Belgian trippels but usually are a little more crisp and usually drier.

Duvel presents a floral and fruit aroma with a hint of spice. The characteristic yeasty nose seems to be a bit subdued compared to some trippels I have tried, but the Czech Saaz hops are noticable.

The medium body and crisp bitter flavors are nicely balanced by the sweetness. This is a wonderful beer on the palate and the warming body lingers long after the initial sip. The flavors become more malty and complex as the glass warms up. I would recommend serving this lightly chilled and take your time through the finish. I spent a good half hour savoring the first glass...although the second went down much more quickly!

Duvel Belgian Golden Ale is extremely popular in Belgium and around the world. This beer should not be passed up if you get the chance to try it. Serve it up with a warm French artisinal bread and some soft cheeses and you will be sure to keep coming back for more.

I thought about fish, But I Am Making Buffalo wings.

I have not eaten oysters since I was about 5 or 6 years old

I have noticed as I get older I Have been Exploring food a bit more out of my normal diet.

I however am not going back to roadkill dinner surprise like i had when i was a kid.

My wife and our friend had grilled lobster (one softshell and one hardshell, they split them) with cilantro-lime drawn butter. I did not, as I don't eat bugs when I can help it, and had barbecue ribs instead. We all had ears of corn and salads made from our garden. Très Bien.

Salade Niçoise
By Julia Child.

Of all main-course salads, the Niçoise is my all-time favorite, with its fresh butter-lettuce foundation; its carefully cooked, beautifully green green beans; its colorful contrast of halved hard-boiled eggs, ripe red tomatoes, and black olives; all fortified by chunks of tunafish and freshly opened anchovies. It's a perfect luncheon dish, to my mind, winter, summer, spring, and fall — an inspired combination that pleases everyone.

Ingredients:

1 large head Boston-lettuce leaves, washed and dried
1 pound green beans, cooked and refreshed
1-1/2 tablespoons minced shallots
1/2 to 2/3 cup basic vinaigrette
Salt and freshly ground pepper
3 or 4 ripe red tomatoes, cut into wedges (or 10 to 12 cherry tomatoes, halved)
3 or 4 "boiling" potatoes, peeled, sliced, and cooked
Two 3-ounce cans chunk tuna, preferably oil-packed
6 hard-boiled eggs, peeled and halved
1 freshly opened can of flat anchovy fillets
1/3 cup small black Niçoise-type olives
2 to 3 tablespoons capers
3 tablespoons minced fresh parsley

Deep Fried Did Not Work Too Good.

The Baked Version Did However, It Was Light And Flaky

No Quiznos in Bar Harbor, Maine. My closest Quiznos is 1 1/4 hour drive from my office. In fact, Subway is the only chain restaurant of any kind on the whole island.

We have plenty of other restaurants, of course, but most of them are four and five star sit-down type affairs. The others are cheaper and greasier, but nothing is quick (and I needed fast food).

BTW... Mileage/driving time to nearest (from my office):

McDonalds: 20.2 miles, approx 45min - 1hour (summer) 30 min (winter)
Wendy's: 20.6 miles, same driving time as above
Quiznos: 45.2 miles, approx 1.25 hrs (+30 minutes in summer)
Red Lobster: 54.3 miles, approx 1.4 hours winter
Arby's: 54.5 miles, approx 1.5 hours winter
Starbucks (until they close those stores): 54.4 miles, 1.5 hours winter
Starbucks (after they close those stores): 102 miles, 2.25 hours winter

Maine, especially coastal Maine, is different from most places. We don't have many chain restaurants, nothing is open 24 hours, we don't have big-box stores, and for the most part... We don't care.

Sigh... But tonight is another long one, and I think I'll end up with Subway or something similar again. Maybe I'll give myself some extra time and get some Rosalie's Pizza though. Mmmmmm...

I Drove To Lumberton, NC With Sue At 4:30 So I Could Get A Rib Eye, We Have A Ruby Tuesday About 7 Miles From Me But We Always Go To Lumberton (About 45 Miles) They Season It Better.

Tonight I Found Out When You Order A Stake The Salad Bar Is Free (They Did Increase The Price $2.00 For The Rib Eye However) I Think It Was $43.00 Or So For Dinner) I Tip 20% So It Was Total About $52.00.

I Closed My Eyes When I Was Chewing, It Was So Good.

As Far As Population, I Checked Out Where I Lived In The 60's Copper Harbor In Mich, And Currently The Whole County Has Under 200 People In It.

It Is Nice Up There On The Lake.

Cajun or mexican? I could never get into Cajun beans and rice. And as for Cajun cuisine in general, we would wash it down with plenty of Jalapeno Vodka, and that made you think the food had some sort of flavor to it.

TexMex for me, or in a pinch genuine Mex. Burritos Carnitas from a streetcorner vendor . . .
