NAS with Media Server
« on: July 01, 2008, 10:38:03 pm »

I have a NAS that runs a media server.  I want to play the files on the NAS with MC 12.0.  I read the tutorial and it says to go to File->Library->Search for Media Server.  That option doesn't exist and I am not even sure if that is correct.  Any ideas?

Hi!

I believe JRiver MC can only act as a media server for other MC clients. For UPNP, MC is only a server, and does not have a UPNP client.

The old Media Server is now called Library Server.

The new Media Server is a shell that is a small footprint version of MC.  It can listen for requests for the servers.

The Media Server that runs on the NAS could be anything, but it's unlikely that it will work with MC.  MC could just import the NAS files though.

Yeah, I just create user shares on my NAS and import files into my library from the shares into MC. It behaves exactly as if they were local files, just a tad slower.
