harmony remote, girder, buttons in theater view
« on: July 14, 2008, 12:57:02 pm »

Setting up a new harmony remote for use with MC.
I'm stuck on one button in particular....

Running theater view.  I have the arrows working using the keyboard function of girder.
What I can't get to work is the select button.
Pressing enter on the keyboard while an album is highlighted pops up a menu with choices like Play, Show, etc.
I can't get this working using girder.
I tried the keyboard functionality similar to the up,down, left, right settings that are working....tried select and return choices.  Neither of these worked.

Also can't seem to find the right option to use windows messages.
Any ideas?

Which of the tabs would that go under?
I have Windows, O.S., Command, Girder, Mouse, Keyboard, and Plugins
I made sure that the target points to child class JRiver Theater View.
It set this automatically by using the 'drag me to target window' feature.

I tried the sendmessage plugin using 28006 which is supposed to be a select command.  Just doesn't work for me in theater view.

you could put <ENTER> in the keyboard emulator. i think for the up down etc keys you dont have to pick a target when you are using it for theater view. i dont. not sure but i guess it even can be handy when it doesnt have a target for when there is some popup or when you also put the rightclick menu on your remote.

but in any case, i would first try it without the target, make sure the keyboard emulation works.

(edit: the gir sendkeys line i posted i puitted into the scripting item in the tree from girder (are you using girder 4?) but that does not makie sense, the keyboard should work just fine. i use the scripting because i have a lot of keys that have if statements and several mmc commands under them with delays, and i get lost when i put all those commands as seperate items under a button using the other girder tools.)

If I put ENTER or <ENTER> in the special key under the keyboard tab and press apply, it gets removed and therefore does nothing.
I currently have version 3.3.1c.  Bought girder a long time ago but haven't used it in a while until I bought the harmony last week.
I'll look into upgrading to version 4 today.

A little off topic here, but how do you find the response of the remote? I've bought a Harmony One for my parents in law to use with their htpc and I find the response slow.

Upgrading to Girder 4 helped solve my issues.
Response is instant.  Every bit as good as the original remote for my DVR.
It was important to add a 300ms anti-repeat for each keypress in girder.
Also, with the HTPC setting I used on the Harmony, it sends TWO different codes for each button.
So unless you learn both codes in girder, the button would only work once for every two presses.
Other than knowing that and configuring girder appropriately, it's been perfect.
I use a TIRA2 IR transmitter/receiver on the pc.

I'm using the Ira-3 with the irman plugin in MC. Maybe I should try with girder and see if that helps. Wich Harmony remote are you using?
