FFDShow DVD Playback Jumpy (Solved)
« on: July 27, 2008, 08:45:42 am »

Since installing Vista x64, attempting to watch DVD's with FFDShow results
in very jumpy unwatchable playback.  The same machine on Vista 32 didn't suffer the same issues.

Any thoughts appreciated!

Cheers,
Chris.

Aditional notes:
Updated from FFDShow included with current CCCP release to latest July build.
No change

Recent ATI Drivers precent.

Dual Core AMD X2 5000.

In MC's DirectShow options, can you change the Video Renderer?  I'm not certain for DVD playback.

Hi Jim

I tried a range of different video renderers
They all had the same result.
As a side note, The VMR Renderless renderer kept leaving Full screen windows which I couldn't close without resorting to CTRL ALT Delete, and terminating MC.

It works flawlessly for me, but everyone else seems to have problem with it  :(
Did it show video for you at all (or only show black screen) besides not being able to close it?

Yaobing, I really wish I could have your computer! ;) I had the black screen, if you remember. Do you use Vista? I prefer XP for anything not HD related (HD since Blu-ray are with EVR in Vista, but with overlay in XP).

Mr ChriZ, it would help if you could tell me what settings you are using in FFDShow. AVISynth? Regular FFDShow Resize? Of course I have never seen anybody getting real good results with FFDShow and heavy post processing (AVISynth with SeeSaw or brutal resize) on AMD CPU's. The Intel QuadCore and DualCores are best for that.

Using libavcodec for MPEG2 decoding.
AviSynth is disabled, there does not appear to be an option to turn it on.
Resize is not activated

ah I've changed to Libmpeg2 and it's now working.
It's kind of bizare because I'm sure on the 32bit system libmpeg2 didn't work at all.

Yeh I blame Vista.
It did and does show Video.
One noticable thing when using it is it puts Vista into Basic mode.
It does actually seem to play fine, just leaves windows around, and causes much flashing when trying
to access the controls.

Video tries to take exclusive control of the display. So it is not recommended to use mouse in this mode.

I use XP. I am still trying to figure out why it does not work on some computers.

Mr ChriZ, I use dScaler or nVIDIA filters, and only use FFDShow for post processing. I have had too many weird problems with FFDShow video and audio filters to ever bother trying them out again! I thought you were talking about FFDShow postprocessing.

I'm not sure of the difference between post processing and the decoding.

Decoding filters makes the audio and video viewable on the computer. Postprocessing uses filters to enhance the image quality (like resize/sharpen, dScaler sharpen, denoise and so on).
