"Mix" playlist GUI
« on: August 29, 2008, 02:12:54 pm »

Ever since the "Mix" command was introduced I've been waiting for the appropiate GUI for it to be added. I find the "Mix" command to be very useful and make it possible to create very interesting mixes of music...BUT, the command for it just isn't userfriendly and have never been, look at this:

50,15%,{playlistid==595271202},10%,{playlistid==237077222},15%,{playlistid==272105145},15%,{playlistid==881559900},20%,{playlistid==370003644},10%,{playlistid==64494308},10%,{playlistid==48656172},5%,{playlistid==655354321}

Doesn't make much sense, does it? Especially if you want to update an old "Mix"-list. How about making a nested GUI for it in the current playlist GUI:

Mix, number of songs 50
- 25% - <Old favourites playlist>
- 20% - <Newly imported plylist>
- 20% - <Top hits playlist>

 and so on...that would make much more sense, and also make it much more easy to create new and modify existing playlists, in my opinion the numeric playlistid is something that should be used internally by the software while the end-user should use "My mix playlists\Old favourites".

Opinions?

Well, I've been using Media Center in its different versions since it came out, more or less. "Mix" has been around since 2004, and there still is no GUI even though it's been discussed numerous times. It's a really useful feature that I'm sure would attract more people to Media Center.

Initial post of "Mix":

And as mentioned in this post, more than a year old, it will "someday" be done:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=41208.0

And also, if you search the forums you will find numerous topics with request for help configuring a "Mix" playlist since it's not very obvious how to do it. I can even remember my first tries which, after several copy-paste-modify tries suddenly started working, only touched it gently after that ;)

Any developer comments on this one?

Didn't this one deserve even the smallest comment, I'm sure someone else must have thought about this!?

(I know, I know, sort of a bump....won't happen again ;))

We'd like to do this.  It's a good idea.

50,15%,{playlistid==595271202},10%,{playlistid==237077222},15%,{playlistid==272105145},15%,{playlistid==881559900},20%,{playlistid==370003644},10%,{playlistid==64494308},10%,{playlistid==48656172},5%,{playlistid==655354321}

You can shorten that a bit to something like:
50,15%,{p="SmartlistGroup\Smartlist1"},10%,{p="Smartlist2"},15%,{p="Smartlist3"},15%,{p="Smartlist4"},20%,{p="Smartlist5"},10%,{p="Smartlist6"},5%,{p="Smartlist7"}

Of course if you rename one of the Smartlists it breaks the Mix, but it's easier to figure out later...

It really does need a GUI though.
