ipod touch (with 2.1 fw) and MC 12.0.533 not compatible?
« on: September 10, 2008, 03:17:42 pm »

I have an 8GB iPod Touch and I am sick and tired of iTunes and so today (after updating the firmware to 2.1 and iTunes to version 8.0) I decided to try sync'ing it with MC12.0.533.  When I follow the directions in the help file the ipod is not recognized.

I did a search in this forum and get the impression that the touch 2.0 firmware changes killed the ipod compatibility with MC12.  Is this understanding correct?

Thanks

Correct.  MC version 12.anything will never be compatible with the iphone or touch.
If support is ever added for those devices, it will come in version 13, not 12.

Thanks.  Not sure if I'll be moving on to MC13 since it's focus seems to be moving from music to TV and photos.  I guess I will have to stick with iTunes after all.

MC12 works with the original Touch and iPhone.  The 2.0 and the 2.1 firmware broke that support.

That's just what they're working on right now.  The music support in MC12 is pretty good.  They have a long list of things to do, though.

I believe you but I'm not about to go back to firmware 1.1.4.  ;)

I'm nervous about all the new stuff ... I've often found that when software tries to do too many things none of it is done very well.

I hope they don't try to put music support in my photo software (ACDSee) or into my PVR software (BeyondTV).  "Do one thing and do it very well" is not a cliche for nothing.  ;)
