Ike bears down on Galveston
« on: September 12, 2008, 06:27:57 pm »

This is a large hurricane, but may not be intense enough to cause a lot of damage.

Here's a great radar site:
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/radar_tab.php

At the bottom of the map are "Large Image" and "Loop" options.  I recommend trying both.

A ship set out from Galveston to go to sea to weather the storm, but lost its power.  Cypriot flagged, Antalina.  22 people on board and they are now drifting in the Gulf.  Let's hope they make it through the night.

Sounds like the 70's.  In about 1973, I was making a trip from San Francisco to Minneapolis every few months for, um, personal reasons.  Let's say she was very charming.

In San Francisco, there were lines half way around the block to buy 10 gallons of gas.  In Minneapolis, ladies with lipstick were driving sports cars with the top down, oblivous to the "shortage".

What King said and Im on the other side of the state.

Kids called us early this morning (8:00 AM) and said there was long lines and price increases.

Kar car was full and mine wasnt.

She took my car ( around 10:00 am) and there was lines and the price was up 40 cents from late last night.

10 gal limit.

Had to goto Hickory around 4:00 pm and all we seen was long lines at the gas stations.

Out on 4 lane highways, blocking traffic and in center turning lanes, really crazy.

All I could think about was back in the 70's

Seems to have settled down.

We didnt go anywhere Sat. but

Sat. morning we learned our local stations were out of gas.

The Kids said a lot of stations in their travels had bags on the pump handles.

Well, its still going on.

Our local stations got some gas in, but that didnt last long.

On my way to Lowes, at supper time yesterday, the radio stations were broadcasting who had gas, their location and how long the lines were.
