I realize that there is a thread about an Ipod cover art synch issue (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=46924.0), but I wonder if this is a different issue.

I have an Ipod Video, running latest firmware (v.1.3), running MC 12.0.531, and Windows XP.

After I upgraded to latest version of MC, I've had slight complications with cover art and Ipod synchs.  The Ipod synchs fine with the music and photos, but for some reason random files have the wrong cover art.  There's not much of a pattern I can see; on the same album, some songs have correct cover art while others have wrong art.  And, when it's the wrong cover art, it's always the same image.

Anyone have any suggestions, short of reinitializing the Ipod all over again? 

Also, in the past MC has picked up any changes to song ratings I made on the Ipod, and incorporated the new ratings in the MC database.  Now I have noticed that any changes made on the Ipod are not included in the MC database after a synch.  Is there a setting I am missing?

I am having this same problem. Has this been fixed yet? I was just ready to buy, but I would like to know it this is going to work with my iPod.

Welcome to Interact.

You might try MC13.  iPod support is a little newer.

There are some known issues with iPod video that don't involve MC.  Try google or Apple's forums for details.

I am using Media Center 13. I first manually synced all the music. Then I added some podcasts. Then I changed my sync settings to automatically get the podcasts. Then I fixed the album art on one album. Then I clicked the Sync button. At this point most of the album art on the iPod was changed to the new album art that I had just added to the one album. The Cover   art in MC is fine. It is just the iPod that is messed up.

I'm also having the problem with random files having the wrong cover art on my ipod video (which MC thinks is a Nano despite repeated posts to the "identify ipod" post which are apparently being ignored).

Have the people reporting problems here tried doing a full iPod "Restore" followed by an MC "Initialization" and a new, full sync?  This has solved various iPod problems for me in the past, so I would definitely try this first.  I know it takes some time, but it eliminates the possibility of iPod database issues and helps narrow down the culprit.

Just to relate my own experiences in this regard, one of my iPods is an iPod video, and I have not run across any issues with cover art when syncing with MC 12.0.534.  That said, I haven't messed with my iPods too much for a while, so I have not played with iPod syncing on MC13 much yet.

I had the same problem, and I found a solution.  When you connect your iPod, the "iPod Video" link appears under "Drivers & Devices" menu in the left sidebar.  If you right click your iPod and choose "Initialize iPod," it will restore your iPod.

After I did the above, I then re-added multiple albums; all of them had the correct album art attached which had previously been confused.

Initializing will erase all information (Videos, Music, Pictures), but I think is worth the pain of re-transferring if you value album art on your iPod.

I had the same problem, and I found a solution.  When you connect your iPod, the "iPod Video" link appears under "Drivers & Devices" menu in the left sidebar.  If you right click your iPod and choose "Initialize iPod," it will restore your iPod.

Thanks for the report -- this is good to know.

Note that an "initialize" is not the same as a "restore."  An MC "initialize" will clear the database, but it will not completely reset the iPod like an iPod "restore" does.  A restore (which is done with iTunes) will completely reset the iPod to it's factory default settings -- i.e. it will be like it just came out of the box and you'll have to set up EVERYTHING just like you did when you first got it.

I just wanted to mention this because I've run into at least one situation where the more complete "restore" solved an issue that an "initialize" did not.  It's obviously best to try the initialize first, but if it doesn't work, a full restore could still potentially solve the problem.

Did any of you guys ever resolve this issue?  Did an initialize and/or restore solve it?  It would help out other users to know if you guys ever solved this issue, and if so, how.  It would also help to know if this issue is still happening on your iPods so we could see if there was a pattern to the issue, or if the issue was indeed due to some bug in MC.  They only way to figure this out is with more user reports, so any updates from you guys will be extremely valuable.

Found the solution:

Connect your iPod to iTunes, go to the "Music" tab on the top of the main iPod screen and UNcheck "Display album artwork on your iPod". Than click "Apply" button on the bottom - top window will read "Deleting artwork" - it's ok. Once it's done, CHECK the "Display album artwork on your iPod" and click "Apply" - top window will read "Optimising artwork..." (might take a while) - once it's done, all your album and song artwork will be displayed just like before you tried MC!

Found the solution:

As I mentioned in your other thread, this is just re-applying the cover art with iTunes, which is only a solution if the cover art remains correct after you sync with MC again.  Did you try this?  The idea is to to be able to sync with MC and have the cover art remain correct.

Finally got around to initializing the ipod (with over 20 gigs of music, it takes a few hours to reload all of them, so I wasn't looking forward to it), and it seems to have fixed the problem, at least on 2 of the albums I was having problems with that I've checked so far.

Now if I could only get Media Center to recognize my 30 gig Ipod Video as such instead of a 4 GB ipod nano, and write a database that's readable by the ipod instead of having to load it into itunes after I change any of the files using Media Center (bought 13 because of the touted "better" ipod support, but it hasn't happened for me yet).
