Folders
« on: September 20, 2008, 07:55:48 pm »

Hi,

I have 2 disks with movies new movies music etc.

I have asked jriver to monitor about 20 folders.

I have made my library JMD files so that it puts those files in this folder.

I have added an avi movie to one of the folders and the library is not fetching it in even when I do a run auto update now.

Have I set this up wrong?

Cheers Janet

AVI is a container format.  It could have audio or video in it.

Try a search for the file you're looking for.  Search in each media type.

If you don't find it, then it is likely that there is no way for MC to read the contents of the AVI on your machine.

Any idea what it is?

Hi and thank you.

I think I jumped the gun a bit.

The file was faulty I just put another one on and it worked fine.

I do have another question though.

Does avi files have tags like mp3's? as I am having to tag them all myself.

Cheers

avi files do not have tags

Once you have tagged your avi's in MC, you might consider renaming them using the tags. That way if you ever lose your MC library you can fill properties from the file name, thus saving yourself a lot of work the second time around.

For movies I keep it simple and use [Album] - [Date(year)].

I use slightly more complex names for documentaries and other video.

Would keeping the jmc files in a separate folder create a problem.

If so how can I have 2 hard drive with multiple folders in one library.

Your files can be anywhere, in any organization of directories and drives.  MC can import them all into a single library.

Try exploring the options for Library and Folders/Auto-Import.

Hi,

I have done it like that I have added all my folders. But I am a little confused as doesnt MC have to have a Library nominated under file library import folder?

Cheers

If you're running MC, you have a library in use.  If you haven't set any up, the one you are using is called the Default Library.

Hi,

I am using my jmd folder as I thought I had to have one nominated.

Also can I have MC on one computer tag the movies then somehow export them to my htpc?

Cheers

That's the problem then.

Your jmd files are the MC database itself.  It defines your library, but for auto-import, you need to point MC at the location of your media.  C:\My Music, for example, or C:\Video, etc.  You should not import the jmd files or the directory they are in.

Choose File/Library/Clear Library to start over.

Hi,

Sorry I seem a bit dumb but this is where I am getting confused.

I have two drives with 20 folders I have told MC to auto import all the 20 folders in Tools Options Library and Folders.

But in File Library I have nominated the jmd folder as the library and told it to put all the jmd files into that folder.

If I change this to the jriver default library will I loose all my tags?

If this is not correct can you please tell me how to nominate one folder for the initial library.

Cheers
