Can MC12 and MC13 share the same database?

can MC12 and MC13 be installed on the same system in parallel? ... using the same database?

You would need to keep the library locations separate. The database format has changed.

You can restore an MC12 backup file in MC13.

Not the same database.  MC13 will find and convert an MC12 database, saving it in a new location.  After that, they can both be used, but the data will be different.
