Can MC play aac streams?
« on: October 24, 2008, 08:50:38 am »

I have been using MC for internet radio and it works fine with mp3 streams, but I recently discovered that Radio Paradise's 128kb/s aac stream sounds better than their 192kb/s mp3 stream.

Unfortunately I can only play the aac stream in Foobar and not in MC12.

Is there a way to get MC12 to play this stream?  http://www.radioparadise.com/musiclinks/rp_128aac-2.m3u

I downloaded that plugin, installed it into my system, then went into MC's Plugin Manager and manually 'added' it.

At this point it does not appear in the Plugin Manager under any heading (encoder, input, etc) and MC still fails to play AAC streams. Yes, I did read the notes that came with the plugin.

Got any tips?

DirectShow configuration?  It's under video in MC.

Although it is called a "plugin", it is not a MC plugin in the same sense as an mp3 plugin in MC. It is a DirectShow filter.

I selected Orban in Direct Show filters for AAC, but still a no-go

MC tries to open the stream, but I only get as far as having the current playing file to be 'Radio Paradise' in the display bar, but then it drops off and stops.

This playlist is strange. It is an mp3 playlist, and MC treats it as such. So MC tries to play the streams as mp3 streams. That is why MC can not play it.

I tried to play the playlist using a few other DirectShow based players (WMP, MPC, Zoom). None of them play the playlist.

both foobar & VLC play it, so it is playable.

Odd, why would they do that? (put it in an mp3 playlist)
