« on: July 25, 2002, 07:02:52 am »

Media Jukebox 8.0.336 is available for download:
(moved to downloads page)

http://www.musicex.com/mediajukebox/download.html

The non-fixed bugs from 8.0.334 thread could not be reproduced.

History:
1. Fixed: Uploading to handhelds with unsupported file types now works correctly.
2. Changed: After ripping CD MJ will not show download image from Internet options window. It will try to retrieve image using standard options.
3. Changed: Adding files to playing now will start playback.
4. Fixed: Command line interface would not work correctly.

Wow. My compliments. Last update was 24.07. and now the next one with changes and fixes. Is it normal, that you are _that_ fast?

Oh well. I guess I'll buy a second licence...

I wish some german companies would copy that type of service :-/

<<3. Changed: Adding files to playing now will start playback.>>

Can you explain the reasoning for choosing to do this?

My own preference is to have playback start when I press the play button and not before.  Anything else makes me think of M$'s position that they know how to operate my computer better than I do.  Maybe they do, but it's MY computer, and how to operate it should be MY choice.

LC,

Reasons for the change:
Old logic was conditional on whether there were files already in the PN.  This confused new users.  It also caused problems when used with a remote.

Can you mute the volume until you're ready to play?  Or use playlists?

If you want to discuss this, start a new thread so other people can put their 2 cents in.

Small installation issue: I choose "Custom" during installation, so that I can see the file associations.  Couldn't MJ honor my previous file associations?  For example, it always checks .avi, which I have associated with a different app.

Soon I will be ready to check out the command line changes.  I can't wait.  But I have a meeting in about 20 mins.  Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

It's working!  It's working!  Yoo-hooooo!  I'm jumping up and down now (testing the strength of the floor joists).
I can't wait to play with this some more.  Now, I have to go to my meeting.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MJ8.0.336 Playing Now Highlight Bar Bug

Here's an interesting little bug, which is just a little annoying.  Load up Playing Now.  Now highlight a song (other than currently playing).  Push the Delete key.  The song is removed from PN as it should be.  But the next song is not highlighted.  Right click on it's Name field once--the name is opened for editing.  So it WAS selected, but it wasn't highlighted.

Here's another minor thing.  First, I'm not a skins guy.  I don't want to mess around with skins, so this is about the default appearance of MJ.  In PN, the currently-playing song is indicated by the little speaker icon, plus, if you look really close, the font is blue instead of black.  But the background isn't all that different than blue, and near the top on a laptop screen the blue looks just like black.  The result is that it's really hard to find the currently-playing song.  Is there a better color than blue?  Or some other way of making that line stand out?  You don't want to make the font bold, because that might mess with the spacing within a column.  Right now you indicate the "selected" song with a blue/gray highlight bar; how about a green or red bar across the background of the currently-playing song?  Any other ideas out there?

MJ8.0.336 mjextman.exe /Mode Minime Crash

This .bat file of commands works OK, whether MJ is running or not:

@echo off
"C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\mjextman.exe" /Mode Minime
"C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\mjextman.exe" /Clear DontRemoveCurrent
"C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\mjextman.exe" /Append "TREEPATH=Playlists\listname"

If I move the /Mode Minime command to the end, then it's still OK if MJ was already running.  But if MJ is not running, this crashes MJ:

@echo off
"C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\mjextman.exe" /Clear DontRemoveCurrent
"C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\mjextman.exe" /Append "TREEPATH=Playlists\listname"
"C:\Program Files\J River\Media Jukebox\mjextman.exe" /Mode Minime

It isn't a problem for me, because I'll just use the first ordering.  I just thought you'd like to know...

I've noticed this on a few builds..

When playing a streamed file and then playing a local file, sometimes the song sounds speeded up/slowed down. Probably depending on what the streamed bitrate was compared to the local bitrate.

I would just start the local file over again and everything is fine. I'm thinking it deals with the new buffering techniques you guys did with streamed files, as I noticed this after the fact.

Scronch,

About your skins; it looks like your example is of the "Z" skin, not skinless. If you select to Disable Skins, the background is plain white. The default skin only skins the player control and leaves everything else unskinned.  You can change the highlighted text color and background color etc. by editing "main.xml".

Scronch,

What about red letters for the currently playing song? This is fairly easy to do on your own if want.

Go to windows explorer and open the J River folder. Click your way until you see the MegaSkins folder. Open it and select whichever skin you want. Z, I believe is what you are using. Inside the folder is a file called 'main'. Now you may have to open notepad first, but once it is open in notepad look for the line called .

Next find current="135587". This is the code for the light blue letters that are used for a selected track in Z. Simply change the numbers while keeping the quotation marks and everything else intact. This is important.

Here are some different codes to try, note anything that looks like a zero is a zero. NOT AN OHHHHH!!!

RED D50303

GREEN IC4E49

ORANGE FF5F27

LIME 40F851

Remember to save the file when done editing. MJ must be restarted for changes to take effect. Best not to have it running when doing this.

When loading up large numbers of files into the Media File Properties dialogue, the Please Wait... dialogue insists on remaining on top and disrupting access to other applications.

It doesn't just disrupt any old applications, it seems to specifically have a conflict with MS Outlook.  Haven't found any others yet.

It happened quite a few times for me in the previous version (haven't tried it in 8.0.336 yet), and I'm not running Outlook.  I know it happened with Mozilla, maybe with other programs too.

Just got a DVD drive (LG GCC-4120B) and WinDVD and I'd hoped I could play DVD's in MJ with this combination.

Firstly, on clicking on the drive, I see all the tracks listed rather than a single entity. Without access to the DVD menu system, it's quite tricky to navigate these tracks. All this is irrelevant though, because....

DVD's that fine under WinDVD give this error:
Key exchange for DVD copy protection failed.
Can't play back this DVD-Video disk.

I think there is a problem with how MJ saves and finds the cover art.

I just switched over to WinXP and decided it was time to install MJ. I have been in the process of moving around much of my music collection to a different drive, so I reimported all of my music into a new library. Because of this, I also had to rescan for all the cover art. I transferred all of the art to the appropriate folder from my old install of Win98. (Cover art folder in Data) MJ does not find any of the covers, and when I have it scan the internet for covers, it saves the cover in the root directory. I have a dual booting system at the moment, and it ends in the root dir of my d: drive. I tried all versions back to 8.0.30, and it does it on all.

cjdshaw,
Did you install the software that came with the drive?

If you need help on this, please copy your message to a new thread.  I don't think there is a bug involved.

Noticed that the Remaining Time is still not working for LIVE streams in visualizations and the track info pages do not update the song title for streams with id3 info in them.
