Works on Vista PC but not on a Win XP laptop?
« on: January 01, 2009, 11:14:15 am »

I signed up for the portable subscription. I am able to play entire songs on a Windows Vista laptop but on a windows XP laptop after I login I am unable to play any of the songs. I don't get any errors either.
I select a song and click the play icon and the highlight moves jumps over a couple songs and stops doing nothing. It does this for all songs. If I download, the download seems to work but it shows a licensing error 103 but I am not able to play the songs.

I have logged out and back in, restarted the application, restarted the system. Uninstalled and reinstalled. Nothing work.

My  ???guess ? is I am missing something DRM related???

You can only play music on one PC at a time.  If you're still logged in on the other PC, try logging out.

You might also try the most recent download if you haven't.  There were some login problems in earlier versions.

Installing PMC should be enough to update the DRM components needed.

I went to the 2nd PC (Vista) because the first one (with Win XP) did not work. I had only one system with PMC installed (and logged in) at the time of this error.

Also, I downloaded the latest build 82 and installed it. Still getting the same problem.

Could it be a firewall problem?

Make sure the copy of XP is up to date.

Checked - No local firewall. No network firewall as the two systems are on the same network.

The laptop is a work laptop and it is maintained by corporate IT. So it is not up to date  :( . However, if there is something specific that is needed I can install that.

Is there any debug or error logging feature that I can enable to determine the source of the problem?

btw... The 30 sec samples work. Only when I login and try to play do I get this problem.

I don't know.  It sounds like the IT guys have you corralled.  You might ask around at work to see if anyone has gotten Napster going.  It would be similar.

Or buy one of the IT guys a 3 month subscription to Performer. ;)

Normally XP is the easier one.

ok...  Now I have been able to update everything on my laptop to the latest. There is nothing left to install on windows update but I still get the same error. I tried another system at work which has the same configuration and access rights. And it WORKS on that system. It  just does not work on this one system.

This is my main system and I really need to get it working on this laptop to be able to use the service effectively.

Help?

 ;D ;D ;D

I found the solution....

http://www.technipages.com/error-there-is-a-problem-with-the-digital-rights-management-drm-system.html

The security component upgrade link on the above page points to this location  (You need to use IE with administrative privileges)
http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp?force=1

Once I did the upgrade from the MS site... it started working....

Thank you
