Hello,

I need help before I upgraded to MC 13.0.113 I could play MKV files now I have no sound.

Anybody know what this is.

I have ccc codec pack installed

mkvs play good here. are you sure that there is nothing muted in windows sound or mc?
have you checked what audio renderer is used under options>playback>directshow?
are mkv files the only problem?

Only with MKV all others play.

Where do I check the audio renderer?

When you play a mkv file right click on the screen > from the popup select DirectShow filters.
This will list the filters used to play the mkv file including the audio decoder.

I prefer to use and have never had any problems with any mkv file with the following combination:

- haali Media Splitter (http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/)
- coreavc video decoder (http://www.coreavc.com/)
- ac3 filter audio decoder (http://ac3filter.net/)

you can see the audio render under tools>options>playback>directshow. but since other files are no problem (you dont mean dvd files?) it should not matter. i use cccp for playback and have no problems there. a peter suggests, check the filters that are used..

To start just list here the items in that menu...those are the actual filters being used. Selecting a filter in that menu will give, if available the properties, for that filter.

That is correct if you don't specify filters yourself...mc will then use the filters with the highest priority on your system automatically.

To know which those are on your system you have to check them while playing as I suggested above:

"When you play a mkv file right click on the screen > from the popup select DirectShow filters.

If you can post that list here we can take it from there

That filter graph looks quite normal.

I can think of three possibilities for lack of audio:

1. FFDShow Audio Decoder may have been accidentally configured to out put low volume.  You can try opening its configuration window and check.

2. Something wrong with Default DirectSound audio renderer.  Try selecting a different renderer, i.e. Default WaveOut Render.  Tools -> Options -> Playback -> Video -> DirectShow playback settings...

3. Is it possible that the video file is bad?  Does it play with sound in another player?

As far as I can see the FFDShow Audio Decoder has not been configured to output low volume.

It does play on my 5.1 chanel HTPC but not on my sterio computers.

Maybe I have the sound set up incorrectly, how would I check that?

Are you using spdif digital out with your htpc and analog out with the other ones? If so check the output settings if the ffdshow audio decoder properties if a flag is set to only output spdif.
