problem with windows home server
« on: February 21, 2009, 02:22:28 am »

hey all

I have an HP Windows Home Server storing my music and running JR's Library server... so that I can run the same library from all computers.

my problem is, that Windows Home Server does not start library server unless I remote desktop log in (then it does start library server).  I would like to set a command to run the JR Library server anytime the server starts (prior to log in).

Any ideas?

In MC Options, under General, check the option to start Media Server on Windows startup.

The wiki (link above) has information on "Servers".

I have it set to start when windows starts...  and have read the servers wiki...

the issue still remains... if 'windows home server' (which is in essence windows small business server 2003) is started (but not logged into through remote desktop) then no library can be found.  If i log into the server through remote desktop, then server is available.

any help?

I'm guessing i need to find a way for my server to auto log in to a user account, or I need jr library server to start prior to a user being logged in... maybe as a service?  I'm pretty techie, but dont know anything about servers.

There are utilities that can run a program as a service.  Please try a google search.

What is the directory and file for library server...

(instructions I got said this for starting a program as a service "Step 2 : Once installed find the two files named as follows : instrv.exe and srvany.exe and copy them to the folder where the exe lies for the program you want to make a service."

And do I need any extra commands when i execute the program to get it to run in library server mode (e.g. "c:\jrmediacenter\libraryserver.exe" 3)... sometimes i've seen that were I have to add some command (here a 3 in this ficticous example).

You can right-click the program's shortcut icon and select "Properties" for checking the default command line.

On XP it is C:\WINDOWS\system32\MC13.exe /MediaServer

(Start Menu > Programs > JRiver Media Center 13 > Media Server)

Should i do /Mediaserver or /libraryserver?
