Rotate Left/Right
« on: March 01, 2009, 11:23:38 am »

Rotate Left/Rotate Right is a bit meaningless.
Clockwise or Anti/Counter Clockwise is the traditional method of indicating which way something is being rotated.

It's pretty clear unless you're standing on your head.  I think clockwise is not a common word for people whose native language is not English.

It is never clear to me and I'm a native English guy.  I often rotate images in the wrong direction because left or right is not how I think when performing a rotation.  I don't see the relevance of people who's native language is not english,  MC is a multi language application.

Do you turn a tap left or right to turn it on or off?  Does your watch turn right?  How about water down a plughole?
Windows uses the terminology clockwise/counter clockwise, as does Photoshop and most other drawing packages I've used.

Also what happens if you ask a girl to turn left at a set of lights?
If a girl asks your to turn right when reading a map which direction should you turn?
Are we saying MC should only be used by the male population?  ;)

you know mr chriz, we dont use clocks in nonnative land, its now some time after sunset. but the icons for rotating are very clear. so i actually think you are right. but it seems like a small isue for me. and its easy to change in the language file.

I knew there was no safe answer to that.

It depends on whether it's hot or cold, and who the plumber was, and how much he had to drink the night before.

Joking a side, it being easy to change an XML file is not an option for the non techie people out there.
You're right it is very easy to change in the language file so why not change it in the source files?
This is a 2 minute change.

Every tap I've come across is anti clockwise to open, clockwise to close.
As to which tap is the hot vs the cold, now that is definitley down to the above.
(I know there was that spell of having clocks/watches that tick backwards, I've always wanted one)

Do they have straight handled faucets in the Old Country?

well .. dont know. was in london a few weeks ago and it went the wrong way in the hotel we had.. burned myself, or had a real wake up cold shower.. but that was not as big a problem as the cars driving at the wrong side.

If you are mechanically inclined you may have heard of the highly technical "righty tighty, lefty loosy" rule.  So, the way it is now makes perfect sense to me  ;D.

this could be solved by including only one option: 'NO I meant rotate the other way! ! !'
