DRM License Acquisition Error
« on: April 06, 2009, 10:47:58 am »

Events:
Ran out of disk space, Purchased a new external drive. Copied my music files from old drive to new one.
Installed Media Center on my portable.  I use it to play music on my sound system via wi-fi, with the music
connected to my other pc with the files shared. The problem is some a my selections get the error as stated in the
subject line.  This happens on both computers. I have 6 - 7 hundred cd's so reloading them is out of the question.
I also installed Vista on my portable. (no choice). I have cleared the library from both pc's and imported them back on
both pc's.

I can't find a pattern as to which selections get the DRM error message.  Prior to the new disk all played with no problem.

How do fix this problem?

tnks in advance............riverrat

What version of MC are you using?  The full version is in System Info in the Help menu.

What type of files are they?  Where did you get them?

Did you import the files into MC after you transferred them?

I have 6 - 7 hundred cd's so reloading them is out of the question.

Are all files ripped from these CDs? Is the format WMA? If the format is WMA did you by any chance tick the "Enable Personal Rights Management" option in MC or a similar option in some other program when you set the encoding options? That option creates DRM protected files.

If you ripped with MC and it ripped to WMA, the setting Alex is talking about is in Windows Media Player.  Microsoft has moved away from this "protection" now, but it could be the problem you have.

You could try a google search.  Here's a link at Microsoft:
