It sounds like a bad DirecShow filter.

Take a look at the wiki (link above) and read about DirectShow and especially CCCP.

Also try MC's logging.  The logs you're reporting must be Microsoft's.  Not much useful.

hi jim read up on directshow and cccp, i never had cccp installed but i did have klite so i uninstalled and rebooted and tried installing jriver again.

I would love to send you the MC log but i couldnt get into it all due to the errors i'd recieved. and now i got to get it reinstalled. but i think you are right those\These errors are windows errors. what i dont get is if jriver is uninstalled how can the JRtool.dll be causing errors? I've done a complete search (hidden files as well) and nothing comes up on OS drive for JRiver anymore.. so it leads me to believe J River is cleaned off and should just reinstall. correct?

the steps ive taken are. double click installer, run, it extracts, then extraction windows disappear and i get Install Wizard Has stopped Working, i chose view problem details, and it brings this up.

Try installing CCCP.  Shut off options for Windows Task Bar on FFDShow and Haali when you install.

Are you using MC12?

Try MC's logging.  The crash report from Microsoft won't tell you much.

I missed part of what you were doing.

Uninstall all MC versions.  Reboot.  Reinstall.

Sorry for the problem.  It's a weird one, so it makes me think something on the system is interfering with the installer.  Virus checkers have a history of causing grief for other programs.

Make sure nothing else is running when trying to install.

You could also search your harddrive for JRTools.dll files and manually delete any that might exist.

Finally, you could decompress the build using 7-zip and run it manually to see if it works any differently.  Or even run it in compatibility mode (although this shouldn't be necessary).
