What is Sidecar?
« on: June 25, 2009, 04:40:28 pm »

I've done some searching and just found that it has to do with tagging dvd's? Or something? Is it a standard of some sort? When I search for sidecar only, I get alot of drink recipes :)

Now that I know what it means, I'm really happy with the changelogs of the latest MC14 versions. I haven't tried them yet, but it's looking like a winning feature that I will be grateful for.

I've been asking for it with DVD rips for a long time now.  I didn't realize how expansive they could be--and help with any filetype that doesn't support tags.  Amazing!

Sounds great! So, now how do you use it? Can you give an example? I guess within MC it doesn't matter...?

For all video except Windows Media (which can be tagged directly), in MC, Update Tags (from Library) writes metadata to a sidecar file.  Update Library (from tags) does the opposite - reading data from an existing sidecar file and importing them to library.
