WAV to MP3 - Sample Rate Problem
« on: July 12, 2002, 10:02:37 am »

When converting a WAV file (44khz and 22khz) to MP3 format (128 and 96 quality) using the MP3 Encoder, I'm getting results where my audio sounds like "Alvin and the Chipmunks."  In other words, it appears the sample rate was increased so much that the pitch (speed) was also increased.  Help!

Are you using the latest version of Media Jukebox 8.0?

Thanks.

I've downloaded and installed the latest version of Media Jukebox 8.0.329 and I am still having the same problem!!!!

Support Personnel, if I can't get this problem resolved I will actively seek a FULL refund.  I made this purchase just last week (July 12) and this problem started occuring.  I was instructed over the phone (Customer Service) that this online Interact Forum is the primary means of support for Jukebox.  If it truly is, I think recommending the latest version as a corrective measure to the problem I am having is very insufficient.

You could use the External Encoder feature with the Lame.exe (Lame.exe is included with MJ because it is what MP3 Encoder uses in a buffered mode).  Of course, you'll have to become familiar with the Lame.exe command-line options, but that's not really that difficult (you are only interested in about 3 or 4 of the options anyways).

Now, I use MP3 Encoder these days because of the buffered Lame.exe support and have no problems (well, only a problem if I'm converting to mono MP3s...not very often & it's a Lame.exe buffered input problem [not MJ problem]).  I continue to use Lame.exe command-line options via the MP3 Encoder Custom (Quality) setting and the Custom Options (Advanced button).

Evener,
We don't issue refunds for two reasons:

1.  You have 30 days to try the program.
2.  Unlike a shirt, we can't get the goods back once the key has been installed.

If you would like to e-mail a problem file to me (jimh @ jriver.com) along with a description of the problem, we will see if we can reproduce it, but it is likely that something is not right with the wav file.

Well, the problem is actually a bug in MJ, how else would you propose that it gets fixed?
