Will MC14 integrate with Windows 7 UI properly?
« on: July 23, 2009, 02:24:41 am »

I just tested the 14 available here on the forum, on my laptop, and it seems to plop in and out in the Windows 7 skin. Photoshop etc have their own interface and they seem to be able to use the animations for minimize and maximize. It doesn't have the drop shadows but at least it still integrates well when you open it up.

I am using the Windows 7 RC, probably old news but it RTM just the other day and will be out by October. So it might be good to get MC14 ready for 7 :)

I don't follow what you're saying.  MC14 runs fine on Windows 7, but you think it doesn't look right?

It runs fine technically, and the interface isn't too bad, it just doesn't smoothly popup from the taskbar. When you click the icon it just plops itself on the desktop, there is no smooth action like other applications that use the windows animations.

Other applications have an animation when minimize and maximizing from taskbar, and when you first open an application it does like a fade in effect. I would have thought MC/MJ would have had it from the Vista Aero, but I haven't used Vista since its release. 7 however is very nice. Wouldn't mind seeing a glass theme introduced to match 7 but that might be asking too much.

Its a small complaint but I think a valid one.

Also, I think a lot more people will be going x64 with Windows 7, I know this is a little off topic but is there any advantage in making an x64 version of MC/MJ. I noticed you have the memory playback... being able to use more than 3.25gb ram will be cool. But then I guess the ram playback is a sort of buffer... My current computer is running 4gb ram, but most people I work with are running more than that already.

I'd also like to see Win7 jump list support - this feature is ideally suited for a media player (indeed, WMP uses it).

As well, it would be really great to have a more native-looking skin. Among other things, this means using the nifty Vista/Win7 glass transparency effect where it makes sense (which is pretty much everywhere the current default skin uses "glossy black").

I agree with you there int19h, MC/MJ look a bit out of place now in the windows 7 environment, but then so does Firefox, they are all working on it and I hope J River is too. The future here we come.

I feel like stirring the pot.

Here's something we played with early in the v14 days:

That'll do to start with Matt ;)

I'd really love to see the snap functionality introduced. I find myself relying on that a ridiculous amount now, and MC seems to be the only app I'm using that doesn't support it. If Chrome can do it, I'm sure you guys can (even if it's a fudge job).

Holy cow! Nice skin...what the heck are you waiting for?

BTW - 13.0.172 works perfectly on Windows 7 RTM Final (32 and 64 bit).

Cheers!
