Dual Boot System: Database Read-Only on one instance [solved]
« on: August 17, 2009, 11:03:14 am »

Is this a bug ?

I also posted this under the 14.0.50 thread as the top message asks for bugs to be posted there.

I have a dual boot Core i7 system with Windows 7 RC (Z: Drive) and Vista Ultimate (C: Drive).  I am running MC 14.0.50 on each instance.  The library and media files are stored on my D: Drive.

I get the "Database Read-Only" pop-up when I start MC on Vista, but not on Win 7.  On Win 7, MC closed properly last time it was run before rebooting into Vista.

All of these Drives are internal, nothing is Network or USB attached.

Any ideas as to what's going on and how to fix?  Or is this a bug?

Regards,
Bill

Another user logged on?  Media Server running?  Windows permissions?

I don't think there is a bug here.

None of the above.

Library is not shared,  Only one user logged on (me) and Media Server not running.

Latest version too.

I'm stumped.

Regards,
Bill

p.s. one more thing: When I installed MC on this system, I did it first on the Win 7 RC image than on the Vista image (with clean reboots in between)

PROBLEM SOLVED: Re: Dual Boot System: Database Read-Only on one instance

 ;D  OK - I solved the problem.

Turns out that when I created the Music folder in Windows 7, Windows 7 put permissions on it that made the folder read only if accessed from my Vista boot.  I had to go through all the folders on my D: drive (the shared drive between the Vista Boot (C:) and Win 7 Boot (Z:)) and adjust the properties of the folders to Full Access from my Vista user profile.

Now all is well.

Note, I did not do anything special when I created the folders under Windows 7 other than pointing the default My Music library to the shared folder (I'm guessing that's what cause the problem).   Also, I solved this a little while ago, but just remembered about this post - so I'm sharing the info.

Regards,
Bill
