Does MC14 support Thuneau's Allocator in DSP plugin?
« on: August 21, 2009, 12:36:03 am »

Allocator is a digital XO VST plugin (http://www.thuneau.com/allocator.htm). One would normally have 2ch In and 4-6ch OUT.
Choosing Allocator in DSP plugin MC13 was freezing.
Could someone tell me if MC14 supports Allocator?
I do not have a chance to test right now, because this computer does not have ASIO.
Thanks a lot

Try installing ASIO4ALL.  See our wiki for the link.

It runs fine for me on MC 14 in Vista x64.

However, DSP plug-ins are not allowed to change the number of channels.  This is because when opening a soundcard, we must open it with a fixed number of channels.  Since a DSP can turn on and off, it's problematic to allow them to change the number of channels on the fly.

Matt,

What do you mean when you say it runs fine?
Can you actually implement LP and HP filters?
From your 2nd statement, it seems that it is not possible  ?
If MC remains like that, then a crossover DSP plug-in is never going to work  :(

You can force Media Center to use more channels in DSP Studio > Output Format.

We could maybe add a new option "4 channels (no channel mixing)" and "6 channels (no channel mixing)" if it helped you.

Build 55 will add a new channel mixing mode 'None'.

So pick 4 channels or 5.1.  Media Center will only fill the first two channels (when playing a stereo file) but a DSP can expand it however it likes.

Just to follow-up that this VST plug-in seems to work great for me after this change.

Hopefully you're luck will be the same.

I finally managed to test Allocator (an ASIO VST plug-in) and DSP Studio on my digital transport PC.
I can confirm that I can use ASIO output for my LynxTwo-B card with JRMC14/Allocator and active bi-amp at 24/192. In MC v13 it was not possible. As suggested, I had to select 4ch output as well.  :)

I have one little problem which you might be able to solve easily (or perhaps it does not depend on MC).
I have a computer case with an in-box small but workable LCD monitor. My monitor resolution is 1024x768 with Large Size (120) DPI setting for better reading. When I open Allocator on its own, the window is fine, it just fits top and bottom monitor margins. When I open DSP Studio inside MC, Allocator does not have enough space to fully fit inside the opening window. A side cursor would be enough to reveal the bottom part which is now concealed. Is it possible to implement it?
Thanks for your support.

I checked up to version 14.0.079 on another computer and it does not depend on the Large Size DPI selected for the computer.
At 1024x760 resolution in DSP Studio when opening Allocator, the opening window is too small.
It needs an up/down slider!
