Media Center crashes when I enable Access control
« on: August 31, 2009, 07:40:33 am »

I can access the Access control normally, but when I push ok to enable it, the program crashes.  It also crashes when I try to sync my iPod with Access Control enabled, but works fine once I disable it.  This is getting to be a real problem, and I would really like this to be fixed ASAP.

Using J River Media Center v14.0.50.

Thank You.

I'm not able to reproduce this.  What search are you using for Access Control?

Thanks.

? It seems like any kind of search...I put it in, and when I push OK, the program hangs, and then says "Media Center has stopped working", and closes down.  When I go back into the program, the Access Control is enabled, despite crashing earlier, but crashes when trying to sync my iPOD.  None of this started happening until just recently, and it happens all the time.  But when I disable Access Control, it works okay, but what I'm trying to do is to leave out certain files when I sync.  It doesn't seem to matter what criteria I put in the box in Access Control, the same thing happens.  Is something wrong with my PC or iPod?  (BTW, Access Control crashes whether I'm using an iPOD or not.)

Does it matter what you're looking at when you use the Access Control dialog?  What if you look at 'Start'?  Is anyone else able to reproduce this?

As a long-shot, you might try a reboot, redownload and reinstall.

Thanks.

I tried the reboot, reinstall, and whatnot, but it still didn't work.

No matter what screen I'm on (Audio, Start, Easy, etc), I can't get Access Control to do what it should without crashing the program.

In my signature, there is a link called "Stability".  Please try it.

I've done this all... reinstall, disabling stuff, doing the things under "Stability",but it still doesn't work.  I used to like this program, but now I'm starting to not like it.  I don't know what I've done wrong.  Please help me.

Assuming you removed all third party software, etc. ... Try uninstalling, removing all registry entries, and reinstalling.  It sounds like something is corrupt.

Often, this kind of problem turns out to be a virus checker or some other "security" software.

;)  I think I know what's happening.  I tried Access control with other criteria in the box, and it looks as if using a playlist (Playlist is/is any/is not any/...) causes this, no matter what playlist is used.  Any other type of entry won't cause this to crash.  This never happened when I used the playlist keyword before. I might need to try to clean up my registry, too.  As for security programs, I'm not sure which ones I need to disable other than Norton, and I disabled it temporarily once, but the program still crashed.  Hopefully I'll be able to sort this out.  Thank You.

Great find.

This will be fixed in a coming build.

Sorry for the hassle.
