I don't see a problem with your license.  Can you provide any details?

hard drive died -  new one yesterday so need to reinstall &  register media center

Download whatever you have a license for, install it, then do a restore.  See the Purchase link above for license details.

restore from internet i believe involves me sending email requesting code and getting quick reply
so far no reply to my email
has something changed ?

You don't send e-mail.  You visit the Restore Page and enter your Registration Code.  Try the link above.
