Is anyone having problems with opening views in Theater View?

It seems that when I try to open up my Movie ISO view MC just sits there and does nothing.  I have a movie Genre parent category, that I can't get into the sub movies with.  When I click Open, MC just acts as if I didn't do anything with the movies of that Genre flipping through (with the horizontal album style view).

Now this doesn't happen everytime.   If I go into an Audio view and drill into a Genre category I see the Artists just fine.  If I then go back into the Movie genre view, I can then get into and see each view.  I have noticed this problem in the last 2 or 3 builds, but because it was so random (sometimes a problem, sometimes not) I wasn't sure if it was just some random glitch or a bug.  I think it is a bug of some sort.

So I tried to isolate this issue down to a specific version of MC, but even back 059 it still doesn't work, which I know it did, back at that time.

To reiterate the problem, I am now seeing ALL parent level menus in a view not able to open up the sub view after clicking open.  The only way to make something happen is to use the mouse instead of the remote d-pad.  Once I do that, MC responds again and goes into the sub view.  If I go into Option -> Theater View -> Enter Key: Go Into Item, .... everything works just fine.  The sub view opens automatically.

I have tried using different skins but that makes no difference.  I am running Vista Home Premium 64 bit if that makes a difference.

What could be the issue?

2. Changed: Showing of library views on the 'View' menu when in a library view is in a nested 'Library Views' submenu.

I wonder if this change had anything to do with my issues above?

For some reason no matter what build I try, the issue still exists.  Would un-installing and re-installing MC help?  That to me would be a last resort (since I have some many option changes), but I would do if there was a possibility of making a difference, assuming its not something actually wrong with MC and can be fixed in the code.

I found the build that causes the menu issue.  .57 works fine, and as soon as I go to .58 it breaks (installed both twice to confirm).  What was changed, I don't know, but I hope it can be looked into. ;D

EDIT:  Ok, maybe not!  It was working in .57 but after a restart of MC, it does not....... ?

I'm not experiencing this problem, and this may have nothing to do with it (it's not clear from your post), but maybe worth ruling-out. In the Theater View configuration, the view name must be unique. (I'm not sure "view" is the proper name for it. I'm referring to the "item" that has no "details" associated with it. It shows up on the second roller.) In other words, you can't have a "Genre" view in Audio and a "Genre" view in Video. From my experience, this is something you would notice when attempting to create a view with the same name as an existing one. I don't recall if the result is consistent, only that something weird happens—one of the views disappears and/or moves to the other location. Maybe this bug (that's what I'd call it) has somehow messed-up your configuration.

Thanks Rick!

That is not the case for me, so I think I will need to to a full reinstall of MC and hope that fixes the issue.  Will report back tonight, unless there are any other suggestions.

The one thing that would be nice to know from a developer is what things outside of MC interact with opening views in Theater View through the menu that might cause it to freeze up and not work?

Maybe some setting was flipped on my system in Vista that caused this problem.  But I have no idea what that could be.

There's no way to know.  It isn't clear that it's our bug.

Try removing any custom views you've created.

I agree that it might not be an MC specific problem, but what things is that piece of code dependent upon, that I could possibly check in my system to see what I might be doing wrong?

I just did a complete reinstall of MC and the issue still exists, so its obvious something is wrong with my system, but I haven't changed anything recently other than installing new builds of MC.

I am not going to reinstall my OS as I have put literally hundreds of hours into it, so I will have to just stick with not having the menu available unfortunately.

Have you tried resetting your views? I imagine they're stored in the library, and would be unaffected by a reinstall of MC.

The reinstall did reset all the views and showed basic folders instead, but I still couldn't even get into those.  Very strange.  Thankfully MC makes it optional to use menus, but because I prefer to use a remote vs. a mouse, it is a bit of nuisance to not have them, and have to go to the roller after opening.

I wonder if there is a way to set a shortcut on my remote to right click in MC?

Is it related to this problem?

Have you tried turning on logging in MC Help and reading the logs?

Ok attached is the logging info you'll see towards the bottom that it references 'GetIsModalPopupShowing' and it took 5+ seconds to load the album in my "Favorite Albums' view.  I think it took that long because after I waited and MC did nothing (after trying to use the menu to open the files), I then used the mouse a few seconds later and manually clicked on the view item and it successfully opened.

I don't see anything in the logging (to me anyways) that elucidates the problem.

I wisht it were. ;D  It happens in all views no matter if it is on a network share or not.  Most of my content is on my local drive.

Ok, disregard this whole thread, I am an idiot, or at least not able to remember things I did to my PC.

About a month ago I disabled Vista Aero to just make my PC a bit snappier (less resources used, the theory went) and everything including MC seemed to work fine after disabling it.  Of course with this issue being so sporadic and the fact that I switched from using a mouse to a remote a few weeks later, I didn't put 2 and 2 together.

So lesson learned, MC is dependent upon Aero, so don't disable it!!! :P

What a coincidence. I'm back to apologize for not reading carefully enough to understand your problem. I managed to do that even though your problem wasn't a problem! It turns out I'm so used to using Theater View without using menus, it didn't even register what you meant by "menu." I now see (I think!) it's the context menu available at any category level. I guess your problem was the "open" item in the menu didn't work.

So, for me, this was a worthwhile reminder that menu is available. And I have a mouse button (ironically, labelled "menu") that invokes it—so I can keep using "enter/ok" for navigation. I'm embarrassed to admit this is a fairly significant "discovery" for me. It means I can have a fairly long list of items in my view (e.g., genre - artist - album - rating - shoe size - etc.) and use the menu to play or show files for whatever is selected at the time—without having to navigate through the remaining items. I'm sure I knew this a one time, but somehow managed to forget. :-\

Idiots helping idiots. I doesn't get better than this! ;D
