Jump to next chapter in MKV file?
« on: November 12, 2009, 03:42:59 am »

If I right click during a playing MKV video, I can choose a chapter under the "Jump to" menu option and MC happily jumps to the selected chapter. My question is, how do you accomplish this in Fullscreen with a remote? I have CTRL+N/L mapped to the next/prev chapter buttons on my remote and this works fine with DVD's. Is it a bug?

just after you posted this i tested it. i see the same, got a bit involved fighting codecs though. because at one machine i could change chapters using the osd and on the other i could not anymore. forgot to come back. would be nice if that would work though.  8)

Oh, changing chapters via the OSD?  I didn't think of that. I'll try.

MC should really jump chapters using remote keys just as it does with DVDs.

Thanks for confirming. Hopefully this will get sorted soon....

actually its one of the nice things of mkv. its easy to add names to chapters in mkv, and via the osd you can jump to them reading their names, very usefull with concert registrations. was very happy when it got possible with mc and the reason i could get rid zoom player (great program nonetheless). but when the next button would also work, even better, the problem with the osd is that its so filled with things i never use like saturation and hue (whats that?) etc. for just next chapter it can be a lot of arrowing through.  ;)

I agree. It's been raised before. The OSD is useful but it's too cluttered for this. I certainly don't want to use it for changing chapters. |<< and >>| work perfectly fine for this with DVD playback and should do the same for MKV's.

We'll make it work.

It would be great to have this, thanks for JimH and others from JRiver for listening to user needs!

Looking at DVD, the chapter jumping can be accessed also at an additioal combobox displayer below the search bar.
Would it be possible to have this for MKVs as well?

Would be perfect!
Thanks

Hey Gappie, what do you use to generate the chapter names? I'm using MakeMKV which is a great 1 step solution but I gather you're using another tool?

ive always been using mkvmerge, but also switched to makemkv, wich is indeed a great one step solution. but with mkvmerge you can still edit chapter files in excisting mkv files, so i use that for the few times i want to give chapters names.

i will check for a link.

you can do this already, but depends on the codecs. i switch chapters for mkv always this way. im no codec master so ... i think the haali splitter is important on my xp machine, my windows 7 machine does it without..  ?
