MC14 playback MP4-MOV
« on: November 14, 2009, 09:22:18 am »

Yes!
I know, I take my chances...
and risk flames for not reading numerous postings scattered all over the forum about playback of .mp4 or .mov.

but the truth is, my interests lay elsewhere and I donot have the time to read all the different post and try to get
the picture as to whether or not I need again to install anóther application to play these files and/or need a bunch
of codecs that present a number of dazzling setup windows that I donot understand.

I have MC14 as my player for music and avi's next to PowerDVD9Ultra (sorry guys) for DVD-video. Figure that should
be sufficient.
MC says that it supports : " ... QuickTime Video (mov, qt, mp4), RealVideo (rv)..."
See: Formats (Codecs) supported by MC http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;topic=36432.0

But MC14 won't play them- not with me.
Google-search learns me that I definitely need QuickTime for it or try to get it working installing FFDShow and
Haali Media Splitter. I am not sure MC14 will then playback mov/mp4 so maybe the only solution is to yet again
install another player ...  >:(

Deep sigh

Can you play the files with Quicktime?

QuickTime is good for various .mov files, but for the MP4 container file type Haali + FFDShow is usually better.

I'd recommend installing the CCCP pack. It includes Haali and FFDSHow and it is nicely preconfigured. Usually it works right "out of the box" without needing any complex configuration sessions.

For QT you don't need to install iTunes. Apple provides also a standalone QT installer.

No problem, I tried a few after install QT - but - excuse me - I just hate to install all kind of different programs, just to get things going.
Also I am trying to keep my system as clean as possible
Sure, I have a lot of respect for all the fanatics who know what/how to install and how to set things up.
For me, all this K-Lite Codec, FFDShow, CCCP, XP Codec Pack, whatever .. sorry, it is all a bit of a mistery for me and wonder whether
I need to install all that to just playback mp4 and mov.

Maybe.., MC14 does playback mp4-mov, I don't know, with the proper codecs - if so, I would recommend future MC14 updates to be bundled with those codecs, so simple guys like me donot need to try and figure out what they need for what and how to set it up properly. Just an idea.

Well anyway ..

Just install CCCP.  Turn off the task bar notification (3 times) for FFDshow and Haali.

I have MC14 configured with CCCP as Jim suggested.

I can play both mp4 files and mov files with this configuration.

Thank you all for the solution!

CCCP has this MPC included and it plays mp4 and mov just great...
Guess I still need to install the DivX codec though?
But that aside, pretty much of all the codecs are covered I think. Anyway, thanks again folks!

You do not need to install DivX unless you want the capability of encoding into DivX.  FFDShow (part of CCCP) decodes DivX.
