Install Failed to Load Error - Options.xml
« on: February 01, 2010, 10:05:21 am »

Doing a standard upgrade of v14 to the regular download of mc14 here.  On all my machines I get this error:

The following module has failed to load ..\JRservice.exe
Failed to load product info file ..\Options.xml
Reinstall latest version.

I have to reinstall only any prior version to get it running again.
v14 has always worked fine for me along with all incremental upgrades until now.

You can ignore the error.  It is harmless.

Just install the latest version.

After installing, mc14 will not load.  Install .050 version is not compatible with the library.  Where can I download versions before .136?

The following module has failed to load ..\Media Center 14.exe
MC14 will not open.

Install of .136 fails on all three of these:
The following module has failed to load ..\PackageInstaller.exe
The following module has failed to load ..\JRservice.exe
The following module has failed to load ..\Media Center 14.exe

This isn't a common problem.

Please try an uninstall, reboot, and reinstall.

We've got the same problem with 14.130, when you installed 14.136/137 were all problems solved?

Beginner needs help. New install fails.
« Reply #5 on: February 03, 2010, 11:31:54 am »

Hi; I just did a fresh installed  of14.0.98 and upgraded online to 14.0.130.  I entered my registration key and then restored my old library which was created with 14.0.98.  Everything seemed to work properly except some of my video's showed up with a small "X" over the thumbnail.

I determined that one of my USB hard disks had changed from "I:\" to "J:\" so one of my libraries was not where media center thought it should be.  So I reassigned the USB drive back to "I:\" with system administration tools.

After restarting media center I get the following error message:

The following module has failed to load:
C:\Program Files\JRiver\Media Center 14\JRService.exe
It has reported the following error:
A JRiver Media Core component failed to load the product info file:
C:\Program Files\JRiver\Media Center 14\Data\Default Resources\Options.xml
Please reinstall the latest version of the program

Any help would be appreciated.

That's the second one of these we've seen lately.  Perhaps something is going on...

Download build 14.0.137 from the thread at the top of this forum and try installing that.  If it still won't launch, try going to Add/Remove Programs and completely uninstalling MC.  Then reboot.  Then install MC using the newly downloaded build setup program.

Thanks gylnor;

I tried both your suggestions and still have the same problem!

1. Upgraded to latest beta and restarted media center.  Same popup errors appeared (many times)

2. Uninstalled, rebooted, installed beta again.  No difference, still got multiple popup errors.

Strange... but the install didn't ask for my registration either time?  In both cases media center crashes after several of these error messages.

I noticed that many of the VIDEO_TS JRSideCar.xml files show parse errors when I try to open them with a browser (like opera).  I don't know if this is important.

I just thought of something.  When I uninstalled media center I didn't delete the library.  Should I try this?  Will this actually delete my media files too?

Are you sure it is not a common problem? I am facing the same issue.

The version 136 did not change something for me. I tried to uninstall and reboot, but again no change.

Can you re-install (without uninstalling)?  Use a build from our site.

And if you get the same error, what plug-in is it installing?  It should say on the Install dialog, behind the 'Critical Error' message in your screenshot.

Getting Nowhere Fast
« Reply #13 on: February 04, 2010, 10:45:05 am »

I still can't get MC14 to work properly.  I've tried all the suggestions and still get the error:

The following module has failed to load:
C:\Program Files\JRiver\Media Center 14\JRService.exe
It has reported the following error:
A JRiver Media Core component failed to load the product info file:
C:\Program Files\JRiver\Media Center 14\Data\Default Resources\Options.xml
Please reinstall the latest version of the program

I also reinstalled a fresh copy after uninstalling everything (including the library).  I then manager to rebuild my library by hand and made a backup copy. No more error messages.

Then I restarted MC and now get the message:
This database will be opened in read-only mode.  Any changes will be lost when the program exits.

Now my library is gone.

So I tried restoring the library that I just saved and now I'm getting those "The following module has failed to load:" messages again.

Can anyone give me some advice here?

I wish we were able to reproduce this.  I just installed build 50, then upgraded to the latest without a problem.

I think you should erase the C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 14\ folder by hand and then install the latest build after downloading it directly from JRiver.

Please let us know what you find.

Also, if you have any old builds, or builds that did not come from our server, uninstall them, removing the registry entries.

You can try to open the task manager (of Windows), find the processus jrservice or Jrtools (i cant remember) and stop it. You should be able to continue the installation.

I did try task manager and process explorer with no luck.  This problem occurred on two of my machines the same way.  It never happened before in all the years I have upgraded mc.

What did work was the suggestion to delete the contents of the program files\jriver\mc14 folder.  This allowed the program to successfully install on both machines, libraries intact.  Odd to me is that jrtools.dll and the other files supposedly in use deleted without a problem.  For some reason the install program could not overwrite them?

Something in the installer is loading the old JRTools.dll from the install instead of the new one in the installer.  Obviously this shouldn't happen.

Since we haven't been able to reproduce it, I'm not sure what might be causing it.

Anyway, glad we found a a working solution.  Sorry for the hassle.

Beginner still needs help - Options.xml
« Reply #20 on: February 05, 2010, 08:17:30 pm »

I was having problems with the following error messages:

The following module has failed to load:
C:\Program Files\JRiver\Media Center 14\JRService.exe
It has reported the following error:
A JRiver Media Core component failed to load the product info file:
C:\Program Files\JRiver\Media Center 14\Data\Default Resources\Options.xml
Please reinstall the latest version of the program

The only way I could get MC to run without those error messages is to run it as "administrator" (Windows 7).

But when I start MC I still get the message:
This database will be opened in read-only mode.  Any changes will be lost when the program exits.

I can now "restore" my saved database but they will be lost next time I start MC.

ADDENDUM:
I managed to totally get rid of the "Options.xml" errors by turning off Windows UAC.  Now I can start MC as a regular user... but I still get that "database read-only" message.  Could this be a problem with Windows 7 UAC incompatibility?

Hi,
I have the same problem since version 14.0.130. The last version I can install correctly is 14.0.121. I use Windows 7. I tried to uninstall and reinstall RMC, deleting or not old file, but without success.

Is it a 64 bit version of W7?

Try turning off UAC.

Hi,
It's a 32 bits Windows 7 version. I turned off UAC but without success : same issue.
Sorry, the error message is not exactly the same than in previous post : in my case, the module which has failed to load is JRWorker.exe.

After my last post I did a fresh install of MC14 with UAC disabled (Windows 7, 32bit).
Now I don't get any errors at all.

But now I have to run Windows 7 in this unprotected mode.

Is anyone else running MC14 on Windows 7, 32bit with UAC on?

OK JimH;

I turned UAC back on and now get those errors again:

The following module has failed to load:
C:\Program Files\JRiver\Media Center 14\JRService.exe
It has reported the following error:
A JRiver Media Core component failed to load the product info file:
C:\Program Files\JRiver\Media Center 14\Data\Default Resources\Options.xml
Please reinstall the latest version of the program

Then I turned it off and all works normally.

So then, is MC14 supposed to work with Windows 7, 32 bit and UAC on?

Media Center is fully compatible with UAC. (we even develop with UAC enabled)

Is it possible you have an old JRService.exe in your virtual store?  Search here on the hard drive:
C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore

Please let us know what you find.  Thanks.

Bingo !!!
There was a JRiver folder in C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files. I deleted it and reinstalled MC14 without any error message. Now, eveything seems to work properly.

Matt, thank you for your efficient support (on Sunday evening !!).

I would like to ask you a question. I'm a recent user of River Media Center that I discovered 2 monthes ago when I was looking for a Media player in order to replace WMP on my computer. My opinion is that it's a very good product. Is it possible (or will it be possible) to install a version of MC14 server on a NAS ? At this time I use a Synology NAS with embedded UPnP media server, but this one is not so good. During a lot of time, Twonky Media developped such a server for some NAS but now stopped it (anyway I don't like Twonky interface !). It would be great to use MC14 as a standalone server we can install on some device.
Best regards

My system also has an "JRiver" folder in C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files
but no JRService.exe.  There is an Options.xml file though!  Maybe this is my problem?

Should I delete the entire C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\JRiver directory?

ps: Why would I have anything in my VirtualStore if MC was developed with UAC in mind?

I had 2 files in C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\JRiver\Media Center 14\Data\Default Resources : 1 'Options' file and 1 'Options.xml.bak' file.
I deleted the whole folder. I presume you can try. If necessary, save it before.

There is no way I know to do that.  MC might work with the UPnP media server.  Please start a new thread if you want to discuss.

JimH and Matt;

I deleted the "JRiver" folder in C:\Users\[User Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files
and turned UAC back on.

Now everything seems to work fine.  No more "Options.xml" or "database read-only" errors and I don't have to run MC as administrator.

Now I'm a happy camper.

Maybe you could check for a JRiver folder in the "virtual store" during MC uninstall and delete it if it exists?

Thanks

We also used at first a "bad" version :-[ , but now we walk the legal line as everybody should do, who uses this great program.  :)

Is there a final resolution to this issue? I have been fighting this for a the last two months, followed this thread, tried all of the "fixes" and still have the same issue. The only fix I have found is to reinstall on each system boot. I can recreate this on several machines.

In addition, I highly suspect that context menus are being affected. Right Click on an object causes a BSOD, uninstall MC 14 and the problem goes away. Put it back on and it's back.

Been using this program so long it's eligible for Social Security. I don't want to give it up.

Uninstall any "bad" versions.  Reinstall your license.

Disable "Shell integration" in MC options.

I been having same problem for months now reguardless of what I did. Today I tried uninstalling, restarting, download, and install. On install I used custom, and installed in a new location. I used Program Files\Buddy\J Rivers|Media Center14. In other words I just added my Nick name in front of J Rivers, it worked like a charm. Did not have to re-install license. and all my play list were still intack.

Hello all:

First post here and hoping that responding to this ancient thread will actually get some attention.
I'm on the latest build of v.18 (manual install file titled ..180136, file version in "details" tab is 4.64.0.0.

Anyway, I'm having the same issue the OP was having, back with v. 14.

I downloaded the installer (typically I just update from w/in the gui) and ran it and the app loaded fine.  A couple of tunes and closed the app to do some work... next time I tried to open it, same bug.

Any ideas?  Please advise.

Thanks,
Mike
