14.0.140 How to sync entire library to device?
« on: February 21, 2010, 01:06:34 pm »

Is it possible to set up MC so that sync transfers the entire library to the device?

Currently each time I sync, I again drag all playlists and tracks to the device panel. I'm guessing this is not necessary.

Thanks.

Please check MC options for the device.

Thanks, I have done but cannot see there any option for syncing the entire library. http://wiki.jrmediacenter.com/index.php/Transfer_Files_to_your_Handheld/Portable_Device says

There are two synchronization modes:
    * Sync Mode – All will copy all files and playlists to your device.

but I can find no option for that mode.

Tools->Options->Handheld. Select the device. Select the playlists and or media types you want to sync.

Thanks, but that works only until the library gets a new playlist - then, sync no longer syncs the entire library.

What would apparently do the job is the Sync Mode - All mentioned in the docs ... but I cannot find it in the program.

You can create a smartlist that automatically includes all files and sync that list.

For example, if you want to include all audio files the smartlist rule can be as simple as [Media Type]=[Audio]. Naturally you can create a more sophisticated smartlist or several smartlists. The smartlist wizard helps in this.

Thanks, but it seems unable to include playlists. And it gets wiped when I clear library, which I am doing quite often.

So I would rather just engage Sync Mode - All... if you could tell me where to find it. Thanks.

Apparently, only the media types can be set to "all".

The playlist selections are static and there is no way to automatically include the new playlists. You must go to Handheld options before a sync and re-tick the root "Playlists" tick box if there are new playlists.

Either the documentation should be fix or an "also automatically sync all playlists" option should be added.

In addition, an option to automatically sync all old and new playlists under a specified playlist group would be nice to have. I don't want to sync all playlists (they would be incorrect anyway, because I don't sync all media files), but I do have a playlist group named "Sync". It contains the old, changed, and new playlists that I want to have on the Handheld.

OK, thanks.

Even better I suggest would be to make the program accord with the docs - add the Sync Mode - All feature.
