Reset DEMO

I have MC13.  Never had lots of BSOD with that and MC14 on Vista64 so I never upgraded to MC14 (only tried the demo)  I have now upgraded to Win7 but the Demo of MC14 is out of time.  I'd consider buying the upgrade but I have no way of checking if the BSOD problem still exists on this computer with Win7.  Is there a solution?

Back up your stuff and do a clean install of Windows Seven rather than an upgrade.

It's the only way you can be certain that whatever was causing problems before has not been held over with the upgrade, and also, as far as I am aware, the only way to reset the MC trial period.

Thanks for the reply.  I'm not going to do a clean install though.  I have a pretty well set up computer for audio recording and editing.  Everything is now more stable than ever just since the W7 upgrade, so I'm not keen at all on reinstalling windows just to demo MC.  There must be another way.

If there was, then no one would buy the product, they'd sit on an ever lasting demo!

I have licenses for many audio plugins and a few DAW programs so I am very familiar with demos and demo restrictions.  I have had several developers provide a renewed demo so that I can test a plugin or program after the initial demo period has expired.  I'm not questioning the demo restrictions at all.  I just know that this has happened to me with a range of other audio software, and I have been able to obtain a new demo period.  I have MCv13, it didn't work well with Vista for me.  MCv14 was the same on Vista (i.e. lots of crashes and BSOD behaviour).  I'm totally happy with the way my computer is running now, but I'd lik to give MC another shot.  It would be nice to demo v14 again, as I have a new OS installed and it may work aok.  If it does I'll upgrade from v13, but not before I check how it works for me on W7.

You could try it on another pc.  There is no way to reset it.  Thanks for your interest.

Blue screens are hardware issues.

Yes I know it was hardware related (or ASIO related more likely).  The behaviour seems to have disappeared with W7 though, so would have been nice to co continue with MC if it was also better on W7.  And MC is the only media player I know of that supports ASIO drivers.  I'm disappointed, but thanks for letting me know.

On Win7, try WASAPI instead of ASIO.

I would but the problem is the demo of v14 has timed out.  Thanks for the suggestion though.  I imagine I'll do a fresh install in a year or two so maybe then.

How about just buying it?  If you have problems that we can't solve in the first 30 days, we'll refund your money.

I have licensed products from about 60 different audio software developers and I am just used to a different way of dealing with these sort of issues.  Thanks for your help though.  I'll have a think about it.
