How to setup Library Server
« on: March 21, 2010, 01:21:42 pm »

Sorry if this has been covered before.
How does one setup a remote MC client, connected to an MC Library Server?

- I have started Library Server on the Server
- I do not have Media Server running
- DLNA is not running
- I have another full MC client installed on another PC

The Client MC14 copy starts up and immediately starts Auto Importing files.
If I am fast enough, sometimes I can stop it before proceeds to read every possible network share 4 times over, creating all kinds of dupes (clearing the Auto Import list never sticks).
Then I "Search for Library Servers", it seems to connect OK.
But half the time Auto Import runs in the background creating dupes on the client.

What is the proper setup to have an MC14 fat client on a different PC connect to the server's library, without Auto Import running?
I do not want Auto import to ever run on the client.

Also, what are the various remote client options:
- remote library
- local library (with sync)

The client needs to have a library or it will continue to try to import, but you could start the import and set your options.  Tools/Autimport.   Just set a single directory you want to import and remove the others.

Then when you start up the client, go to Library Manager and try Search for Libraries.  You may have to specify the server you want with an IP address (192.168.1.100:88, for example for port 88).

Try the wiki article on "Servers".

Sorry, no dice...I cannot get the client to not load the remote library multiple times!!!

- As you suggest, I initially set one directory on the client, MyMusic (with 0 media files in it) to provide it something to gnaw on.
- It scans it, and all is quite locally on the client.

- Then I "Search for Library Servers", it easily finds the server and loads its library.
- At this point one is locked out of normal "Library" menu items, they are grayed out.

- Then some time afterwards, 2-5 minutes later, MC starts scanning again!
- This continues until the number of media files has tripled, and I get fed up.
- Since the Library Menus are greyed out, the only way to stop the scan is switch back to the "Default" Library, which severs the connection to the server.

A Maddening loop!!!
I am obviously doing something majorly wrong in how I am configuring the client.
Once again, how does one stop the client from scanning!?

Put a file or two in that directory so that the library isn't empty any more.

Thanks for the suggestion Jim.
While that did not do the trick, it got me thinking.

On the two guest client machines, when MC14 opened, they both would say something like "The database is read only, you will not be able to save changes...".
I made sure your Library directory (Docs and Settings\...\MC14\...) had no RO settings, but that was not it either.

The solution was to unistall (version 141?), and reinstall (version 161).
Don't know exactly what the issue was, but that resolved it on both PCs.
MC no longer goes scan crazy, and consequently nor do I.
