Failure to update
« on: May 09, 2010, 08:48:34 am »

Both with MC 14 and 15 I'm getting a message of failure ("Failed to download update") when the program tries to update to a newer version. What's the deal? It happens every time. There's nothing wrong the the internet connection here.

I've just checked, and it's working.

Maybe you don't have IE?

You can get the latest build from the top of the MC15 board.

I assume you mean Internet Explorer. I do have it and it's set as the standard internet browser. It downloads fine, but then after a while I get the message that the download failed.

Exactly what do you do and what happens.  "It downloads" isn't clear.

It starts downloading and it download all the bytes (16.7 of 16.7 with version 15). Then there's a pause for about a minute and a message that the download failed shows up.

I've downloaded and installed the new version of 15, but then I lost how recently albums were stacked. Version 14 doesn't work anymore (says it needs to download the update), but I don't want to uninstall and install the new version since I will loose several things.

Please switch to MC15.  You don't need to uninstall MC14.

You can restore an MC14 library in MC15 and also use your MC14 settings (read carefully when you restore).

"Security" programs can cause the kind of problem you've got.

Can't believe I didn't think about that. It was of course my antivirus program (Nod32) that was hindering the update. I deactivted it, and it updated just fine. Well, now I know for next time.

Do you have a link how how to restore MC library and keep previous settings? I believe I tried it, but I didn't get the Recent Albums in same order. But I've probably done something wrong.

It's just File/library/Backup in MC14 and then it's File/Library/Restore in MC15.

I did it, but Recent Albums are not in the same order. That's the only thing that's important. For me there's really no point of a backup if this doesn't work.
