Library Server Can't Handle Long Audio Files?
« on: May 20, 2010, 12:43:53 pm »

I seem to be having a problem when I used JR Media Center to act as a client with my home Library Server. I have a lot of classical music that have tracks that run 20+ minutes. The system seems to play the file fine for 10 minutes or so then just randomly switches to the next track. It seems to do this pretty consistently and I am trying to figure out the exact time it cuts out. It does this on all track that are very long.

I just listened to a song a noticed that it was around 12 minutes or so that it cut out to the next track. I am going to re listen to that track and others to see if it does it at the same place every time.

So this problem is reproducable and seems to happen around 12 minutes or so on any audio track that is over this length. Is anyone else experiencing this?

This sounds like it might be an OS problem.  Here's an example:

How big would the 12 minute file be?  Try a lower bitrate to see if it's the filesize or the time.

The files playback fine when I play them locally. It is when I am streaming them that they always stop around 12 minutes or so. All PC's in question are Windows XP.

Did you try a lower bitrate file?  MC can convert to MP3 or WMA, for example.

Are you playing your home files at work or at another location?

Can anyone else duplicate this, using Library Server?

I routinely play 30+ minutes of FLAC (ripped from CD) via Library Server/Client - works fine for me.

The files on my server are all FLAC audio files. I am using the option to convert them to MP3 for playback on my work PC to minimize bandwidth usage.
