build 48 - HDTV AVI audio jitter
« on: May 23, 2010, 10:08:56 pm »

Same problem. HDTV AVI playing caused audio jitter all the time with Benchmark DAC 24bits/96000 sample rate.
I'm using WASAPI output format.
MC14 works fine with it. :-\

Are you using FFDshow to resample? I have been noticing some strange things when using ASIO ofr audio playback. More testing tonight.

I had tried MC14 and the problem was not there.

I found another option at Video Playback from Options-->Tools-->Video to select Microsoft rather than "Automatic" that plays fine at 16bits audio.
But still jitter at Benchmark DAC 24bits device with MS decoder.

Another changes at WASAPI "buffering" time to 2.50 sec (middle in slide) from 0.50 sec that removes jitter in audio.
Now, guess what, Audio only file such as .ape or .flac won't play with buffer more than 2 sec !

<buffer setting test result>
Video play       :at least 2 sec of buffer required in order to play audio without jitter
Audio only play: less than 1 sec buffer required

Any idea ?

Hmmm.
It looks like only I have this issue.
No one care of it ?
Benchmark is the one of THE best DAC in market I guess.

Did you try the changes in the "DAC Settings" article on our wiki?

Reminder folks.
MC14 with same DAC works perfect.
Same setting and same device.

Yup.
I don't know how to add picture in this reply.
but I have WASAPI Audio option and check "open Exclusive mode" and "unchecked "Present 24bits" as same as I used with MC14.

<More details>
1. Options > Playback > Audio Use WASAPI Output  - yes

2. Inside "Output mode settings..." for WASAPI Checked: Open device for exclusive access Unchecked: Present 24-bit data in a 32-bit package - yes

3. DSP Studio > Output Format Bitdepth: 24-bit Channels: Source number of channels Sample rate: Depends (with an outboard DAC, try "Source sample rate") - I'm using 96000 sample rate that is only rate works for Benchmark

What are you picking in Options > Video > Audio for Video, DVD, & Television > Playback device?

Try switching between 'Same as device used in audio playback' (which uses your audio output settings) and the system renderer.

Thanks.

Matt,
In MC15, there is a new option at Video Audio Play back where you can select your device.
I switched from "Same as device used in audio playback" to Benchmark USB output device explicitly.
Wow ! then, It works fine as same as MC14 did.
thanks a lot, folks.

FLAC won't play with buffer more than 2 sec !
I am having this exact problem. I am playing a lot of video files, the sound on these is terrible unless you set the Audio Output Settings (WASAPI) to maximum Buffering (More Skip Resistant).
This fixes my Video playback, and sound is perfect. However, now when I play Audio music files, it works fine for MP3, but FLAC fails with an error, 'Playback could not be started ...'
So Video fine with max buffer, MP3 playback fine with max buffer, FLAC fails with any buffer greater than 2 seconds.
Workaround for now, set buffer to max for Video, manually change to less than 2 secs. for FLAC Audio playback.
Any way to set this automatically for Video - Max buffer, and Audio < 2 secs ?
I believe more people will run into this issue over time who use Video and Flac.
Thanks!
