Possible Bug - streaming dies at around 10 mins
« on: June 13, 2010, 08:19:38 pm »

At some point past the release of mc 15, my hi def MKVs have stopped functioning correctly when streamed over library server. Standard definition files work fine, even Hi def MKV files downloaded off the net work fine. But any MKV I've made from ripping a blue ray disk and compressing it, freezes at or around 10 mins. these same files have been streaming fine for years on mc 13 and 14. if i copy the file to the local system it plays fine, this is happening on 4 systems in the house . the local system running the server plays them fine. for codecs and filter i use a standard install of cccp. and again, they play fine if opened locally or directly opened and played over the network. when it locks up it doesn't freeze the system or even MC, it just stops playing the movie and repeats the last half second of audio untill i hit stop. i cannot seek past that point even if i open it again and it starts playing from the beginning. its like the server cant index past 10 mins in the files. i use megui to compress using its x264 codec with the high quality 2 pas profile.

any ideas or things i can try? i can send in a clip to J river if you guys would take a look.

Are you using the latest build from the top of the MC15 board?

What version of Haali Media Splitter do you have on your client machine?  If it is not the latest, try updating it.  People have reported problems with some versions of it.

Yes, latest version of mc 15 on both.

If the splitter was the issue would that not affect local playback as well?

Not necessarily.  A piece of software can have all kinds of bugs, some affecting only local playback, some affecting only remote playback, some affecting both.

How large is the file on the server?  The client received only 402438978 bytes (383 MB) - actually, the server reported that as the length of the file, and thus the client was only prepared to handle that much data.

I forgot to mention that while I work on fixing the bug, you can turn on "Play local file if one that matches Library Server file is found" option as a work-around, assuming you can map the server files to the client computer using same folder structure as on the server.
